While iPods ordered directly from the Apple website give users the option of having a personalized message laser-engraved on the player’s metal shell, Zune is offering customers of its website the option of engraving personalized messages and elaborate images.

This one-up of the Apple engraving is nice—and sure to be a hit during the holidays. The only downside is that users are not allowed to upload their own artwork to the site for engraving. Instead, customers select from an array of artwork from the Zune engraving  gallery. While some of the psychedelic, animal-themed, zodiac-inspired images are cool, it would’ve been awesome to be able to add your own custom image.

After passing a copy of “White Wedding” singer Billy Idol’s pointless Christmas album in the discount bin (thankfully, he’s not wearing his nightmare-ish leather underpants on the cover of the album), we started wondering what other holiday nightmares are lurking the forgotten corners of the music world. Many stars release Christmas songs instead of entire albums. Still, Mariah Carey’s holiday anthem Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas mp3 doesn’t really get us in the holiday mood the same way a few annoyingly catchy choruses of Jingle Bells mp3 do—but Mariah’s number isn’t the worst of the bunch. (Do the Pussycat Dolls have a Christmas album yet? We’re pretty sure that would be the worst idea EVER.)

According to numerous reports released earlier today, it looks like the divorce settlement between Madonna and soon-to-be-ex-husband Guy Ritchie has been finalized, and the grand total is likely to make even Heather Mills (ex-Paul McCartney) a little, uh, green with envy.

In the settlement announced today, Ritchie is set to rake in a hefty $76 million from Madonna. That’s nearly twice the amount Mills was awarded in her then-record-setting settlement with McCartney.

Of course, this is rather like pocket change to a woman estimated to be worth around half a billion dollars.

So, the question now is: Is Guy Ritchie getting enough of Madonna’s money?
Aside from the broken hearts and broken family, and the fact that it looks very likely that she was in love with another (baseball-playing) man during their marriage, is $76 million dollars enough compensation for someone who had to endure Madonna for nearly eight years?

Seriously, she might be the most obnoxious celebrity on the planet, aside from Carrot Top and those idiots from the Hills. The fake British accent, the top hats, the frighteningly toned 50-year-old skeleton, er, body. Maybe Ritchie suffered even more than anyone realizes.

Here’s a quick rundown of how much this settlement is worth, have a look and tell us if this would be enough for you to tolerate the Material Girl for eight whole years.

Page’s days as a naughty poster girl and sometimes film star were followed by a surprising lifestyle shift that found the star limping off into obscurity to pursue a quiet life as a born-again Christian. Although she claimed that she wasn’t embarrassed by the photos taken of her in her youth, she refused to have her photo taken in her later years.

In recent years, the rediscovered star has been the subject of countless books, movies (including 2005’s well-received Notorious Bettie Page) and an authorized documentary set to be released in 2009 titled Bettie Page Bares All.

Although she wasn’t a musician, Page was a music icon in her own special way, and that’s why we’re bidding here farewell on this page. The 85-year-old icon passed away Thursday in Los Angeles.

Plus, the chorus is really catchy, but nobody ever knows all of the words to the whole song, which makes it even more annoying. Listen to it now one more time, if you must. But please, let’s bury this awful song in 2009.

We don’t normally get sucked into teenage drama, but with Grammy-snubbed teen country star Taylor Swift popping up on every tv show imaginable to promote her new album, free Fearless downloads, and bash ex-boyfriend/Grammy nominee Joe Jonas, we couldn’t help but think it was a little odd that the feuding teens were spending New Year’s Eve together.

Well, sort of.

Although they haven’t reconciled, the famous pair will both be appearing on this year’s edition of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2008-2009 live from Times Square, along with Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood and others. The star-studded concert has been a New Year’s Eve tradition for 36 years, even as Clark’s health has declined over the years, leading to the addition of special (and especially annoying) guest co-host Ryan Seacrest.

While the big NYE event is normally the Times Square ball drop, this year there might be some fireworks to go along with the confetti if Swift and Jonas cross paths.

Or, on a nicer note, maybe it’ll be a happy new year for the kids and they’ll reconcile.

Either way, prepare for a NYE full of girls screaming for (or at) the Jonas Brothers.
We’re afraid Times Square will be a zoo, so we’ll probably just watch the show from our nice warm sofa. How about you?!

Set in the 1950s, the movie Cadillac Records tells the story Leonard Chess, founder of the legendary Chess Records label that was home to artists such as Etta James, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry—just to name a few! With this many music legends all in one place, the music is sure to be out of this world.

Cadillac Records stars Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess and features Beyonce Knowles as Etta James, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Cedric the Entertainer as  blues legend Willie Dixon (see complete cast details here).

Unfortunately, the Cadillac Records movie soundtrack doesn’t feature the original versions of the songs by the real artists, it features the versions performed by the movie’s actors.

Beyonce is a fine singer, but we’d really rather hear the real Etta James sing “At Last”! Same goes for Mos Def’s attempt at singing Chuck Berry’s “No Particular Place to Go.”

We’re not really sure what Solange Knowles is doing on the Cadillac Records soundtrack downloads, but we’re pretty sure she’s only there because Beyonce produced the movie. Must be nice to have a celeb sister! Maybe Jessica Simpson will produce a movie for Ashlee,haha, oh wait, Jess’s movie career hasn’t exactly been golden (who actually watched Employee of the Month? Yeah, that’s what we thought…).

A Creed reunion? Now that’s even scarier than those Saw movies!!!When this horrible, horrible band broke up in 2004, it was a beautiful day to be a music fan. Seriously, does anybody on earth really want to hear “My Own Prison” or “Arms Wide Open” ever again? This is pretty awful even for pseudo Christian music. Maybe these are just bad songs—does the band have something better that we should be listening to?

Creed frontman Scott Stapp is not only one of the most derivative (and inexplicably popular) rock singers in recent memory. His weird Eddie Vedder-esque vocals have spawned tons of awful bands—from Nickelback to Daughtry (there, we said it).

And, music aside, Stapp is one of the more obnoxious rock singers in recent memory—and not in a funny, Johnny Rotten obnoxious way, but in a “this guy makes Kid Rock look like a genius” kind of way. From trashy bar fights and a sex tape with Kid Rock (and some girls, probably) to alleged spousal abuse, this guy is a loser.

As if the world needed one more reason to hate Axl Rose (isn’t the white spandex reason enough?), the always affable (ahem) singer is now suing Dr Pepper over a promotion wherein the company promised to deliver free Dr Pepper to everyone in the world (except ex-members of Guns’n’Roses) if Rose would release the much-delayed album by the end of 2008

Rose unexpectedly released the album in November—after working on it for a decade and a half and cycling through a Spinal Tap-esque number of bandmates. Even more surprising was the fact that Dr. Pepper lived up to its end of the bargain by offering coupons for free soda on its website.

Or at least Dr. Pepper attempted to offer coupons. Website issues and clogged phonelines made the promotion a less-than-smashing success, as Rose points out in his seemingly only semi-serious suit.

Rose is lobbing accusations that the company’s publicity stunt failed and attempted to unlawfully cash in on his band’s popularity.

Uh-huh.

Ironically, Rose’s suit against Dr. Pepper seems to be his attempt to cash in on the company’s popularity and the publicity generated by its Guns’n’Roses-themed stunt.

While he may technically have a point, we have to admit that free Dr. Pepper is much more appealing than the new Guns’n’Roses disc (free Chinese Democracy Mp3s here. Free Guns’n’Roses downloads and free guns n roses ringtones here).

In his defense, Rose is only asking for a published apology from the company.

No word on whether Rose actually drinks Dr. Pepper.

While Twilight by Stephenie Meyer was a hit in bookstores (selling over 20 million copies), movie industry insiders were still somewhat surprised by the huge box office revenue being generated by the film version of the popular vampire story.

With news of a Twilight sequel based on the second Twilight book, New Moon, already spreading like wildfire, this series seems to have the makings of the next big franchise.

As vampire movies go, Twilight is a respectable entry into the category, although the recent Swedish teen vampire flick Frozen was cooler, funnier, smarter and had a better soundtrack (it featured the Hives! Twilight features Collective Soul—who the hell still listens to Collective Soul?!?!).

Ok, after watching just enough of last night’s American Music Awards’ tepid performances, poorly lip-synched dance routines and rambling speeches to be completely bored senseless, it’s time to bring up an important issue: We are sick of Kanye West and the Pussycat Dolls.

First, Kanye. Somehow, Kanye has managed to endear himself to clueless pop music fans and trend-hopping hipsters who, in their clumsy attempts to pretend they “get” hip-hop, have chosen Kanye as the obligatory rapper of choice. Hipsters used to profess love for clever or socially-conscious hip-hop acts such as the Roots or Common (or truly hilarious Dr. Octagon/Kool Keith), but these days folks are settling for Kanye—but why?

Aside from having a cute cartoon bear serve as his mascot on album covers and in videos, there is very little to admire about Kanye’s inability to sing without the always-horrible use of Auto Tune (listen and download free Kanye West Heartless mp3). Then, there’s his baseless boasting, including last night’s televised declaration that he wanted to be Elvis (who, by the way, did not need Auto Tune). Not to mention the way he pouts and throws childish tantrums anytime he doesn’t win an award. Um, unsportsmanlike much? Besides, is making music/art all about winning dumb statues and fattening your bank account? Sure seems like that’s the only thing that interests Kanye.

Another thing we have to mention after the 2008 AMAs is something we’ve brought up before, but it’s worth mentioning again: The Pussycat Dolls SUCK. Seriously. Sure, it’s fun to see skanky girls dance around in stripper clothes—but, for crying out loud—don’t give them microphones. We’ve never actually been to a strip club (honest), but we’re pretty sure that most places don’t give the gals microphones—and the Pussycat Dolls prove that there is a reason for that: They can’t sing.

Although, PCD (that’s fancy slang for Pussycat Dolls) mostly lip-synch anyway, the tracks they lip-synch to are horrible to begin with. So, add a few stray cats yowling over the top of the pre-recorded tracks and you’ve got the recipe for a ruckus deserving of a visit from the local animal catcher (or exterminator).

Of course, lots of other performances from the AMAs were horrible, too. Leona Lewis over-sings almost as much as Christina Aguilera and Beyonce, Pink was hilariously introduced as “one of the greatest artists of our time” or some such nonsense and, for reasons mere mortals cannot comprehend, Rihanna performed clad in a sparkly eyepatch (which covered her eye, but not her awful vocals).

Chris Brown won a few awards, but he uses that same horrible robot-voice Auto Tune voice processor that Kanye uses—and it’s horrible.

What happened to pop music, America? Was it always this bad? Why are we buying the garbage that the record companies are selling us?

Yes, that’s right, just when you thought the idea of Ashlee Simpson having a baby with mall-punk poser icon Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy was the dumbest thing you ever heard, now comes news of the actual birth of the baby on Thursday and the revelation of the fittingly ridiculous baby name.

Please welcome future lip-syncher/pop-punk sell-out Bronx Mowgli.
(Wonder if it got her old  nose?)

That’s right, it addition to saddling the baby with a name that conjures images of one of NYC’s less attractive realms, the dorky duo named their baby after the kid from the Jungle Book. Nothing says “punk rock” like naming your kid after a Disney character (let’s face it: these two probably haven’t actually read the Rudyard Kipling books that inspired the movie).

At least that kid was raised in the jungle by a singing bear, he probably turned out better than baby Simpson-Wentz is going to.

Oh, and in case the super-cool name didn’t make it obvious, Bronx Mowgli is a boy.  At least he’ll have something to talk about with Gwen Stefani’s kids Zuma Nesta Rock and Kingston, Suri Cruise, Felix Anderson, Pilot Inspektor (Jason  Lee’s kid), Apple and Moses Paltrow-Martin and all of the other celeb-babies with goofy monikers.

We’re not sure that Guns’n’Roses’ decision to give away Chinese Democracy has anything to do with the fact that it’s almost Thanksgiving, but thanks anyway!

We have a feeling that Axl and Co. are giving this stuff away because they’re afraid nobody will buy it. Regardless of how much this album does or doesn’t suck, we’re kinda hoping for a reunion tour. Although, last time we checked, former drummer Steven Adler was still part of that Celebrity Rehab reality show, so maybe they should leave him alone.

In the past year, Beyonce Knowles has gotten a ton of attention thanks to her top secret wedding to Jay Z. However, attention is about to turn back to the singer’s music…maybe.

Actually, it’s surprising that more people aren’t talking about the ridiculous new album Beyonce is set to release on November 18. Titled I Am…Sasha Fierce and featuring new songs such as If I Were a Boy mp3 the album is meant to represent the singer’s outgoing performer persona, which she has apparently dubbed Sasha Fierce.

Ok, anyone who has watched an episode of (or commercial for) America’s Next Top Model knows that this whole “fierce” thing is silly. Tyra Banks constantly refers to models and poses and everything else in the world as fierce, so much so that, apparently, even Beyonce wants in on the action.

Seriously?

Ten years into your career is a little late for a name change, joking or not (Prince, Diddy, we’re looking at you). Remember when Garth Brooks tried to reinvent himself as an Australian rockstar named Chris Gaines with a movie and concept album (and a shaggy blond wig)? It failed miserably and has made him something of a laughing stock among music fans.

It’ll be interesting to see how fans react (or if they react at all) when Beyonce/Sasha’s new album hits stores next week.

The 42 annual Country Music Awards were handed out last night in Nashville.

The night’s big winners included the usual suspects such as Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and Kenny Chesney, as well as newcomers such as Lady Antebellum.

Kenny Chesney took home his fourth Entertainer of the Year award, tying Garth Brooks for the most number of wins in the category. During the show, Chesney performed a pair of songs alongside reggae group the Wailers.

George Strait set a new record for the CMAs after winning a total of 22 awards. The previous record of 19 was held by country duo Brooks and Dunn.

The show’s hosts, Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, also won awards, including Paisley’s wins for Video of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and Underwood’s third Female Vocalist of the Year win.

Top country stars such as Keith Urban, Brooks and Dunn and Reba McIntyre also performed at the awards ceremony, as did some unusual acts such as Kid Rock and Darius Rucker (Hootie and the Blowfish).

Headline-making country starlet Taylor Swift also performed during the show. Swift offered a rendition of her song “Love Story” from her new album, Fearless.

In the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone set to be released on Friday, the magazine is publishing a list of the top 100 singers of the rock era.

The most shocking aspect of this survey is that the King of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis Presley, has been dethrowned. That’s insane! Who is better than Elvis?!

Well, apparently Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles who scored the number one and number two spots, respectively, with Elvis ranking third.

While the list is sure to be obnoxious and off balance, as most stories in Rolling Stone are, the only consolation is that the skewed nature of this poll makes perfect sense once it’s revealed that the people voting on this list included an array of  (mostly lame) music stars such as James Hetfield (Metallica), David Crosby and James Blunt (seriously).

Ok, this isn’t actually out yet, but we have a sneaky feeling that it’s going to be almost identical to all of the other Saw movies. Are these things still scary/gross? Or is it getting kind of lame and predictable by now?

Cloverfield
The only scariest thing about this movie is that I paid $12 to see it. On the plus side, most of the annoying characters died. Hopefully, there won’t be a sequel to this garbage.

Child’s Play
Dolls are creepy, end of story. The movie involves some sort of story about the doll being possessed by the spirit of a killer or something silly like that. But, seriously, we just assume all dolls are evil little monsters, no explanation needed.

Nightmare on Elm St.
Yeah, the whole “Freddy is a supernatural murderer that can kill you in your dreams” thing is pretty spooky, but the worst Freddy-attack is on the character who falls asleep in the bathtub. Because, if Psycho taught us one thing, it’s that you are basically defenseless in the shower/bath. Unless you have a really tough ducky. Plus, dying naked kinda sucks.

Night of the Living Dead
This black and white zombie flick is ultra-scary because it looks like a documentary. They might be slow, but the undead in this movies are as scary as the fast-moving zombies of 28 Days Later…well, almost.

Psycho
“Mother” runs up the stairs with a knife, weird overhead camera angle.
Classic, slow-moving monsters are scary, but fast-moving crazies are terrifying!

The Ring
This might be the scariest movie ever.
Why? Because, much like Nightmare on Elm St., it gives you a sort of helpless feeling. Freddy attacks through your dreams, but the Ring comes at you through your TV and telephone! It’s a terrifying slice of modern horror—plus, the creepy editing and sound effects are unforgettable.

Another day, another celebrity has a baby and gives it a weird celebrity baby name.

Just in time for Halloween, today’s awful baby name comes from X-Files actress Gillian “Agent Scully” Anderson. Gillian Anderson’s baby name? Felix.

It seems ok, until you realized that “Felix” is an anagram for “X File.”  Clearly, this was no accident.

This is pretty dorky, but it’s almost so dorky that it’s cool. We can’t decide. It’s sort of like having Leonard Nimoy name his son Spock or having George Lucas name his kids after Star Wars characters.

At any rate, it sure beats Gwen Stefani’s new baby’s name, Zuma Nesta Rock. Ugh.

If the recent X-Files movie had been better, maybe this would’ve been a cool name…Too bad Anderson’s cute new kid won’t make as many headlines as ex-X-Files co-star David Duchovny’s sex addiction/failed marriage/affair with a tennis player. Better luck next time, Scully.

People magazine reports Felix is Anderson’s second child with boyfriend Mark Griffiths. The couple has a 1-year-old son, Oscar. From a previous marriage, Anderson also has a 13-year-old daughter, Piper.
