VIDEO: Jimmy Page, Jack White and the Edge might be guitar heroes, but they’re not movie stars.
It looks like the rock underdogs of Anvil have a new chapter to add to their hard luck story.
Sometimes billed as the real-life Spinal Tap due to the comically unlucky nature of its 30-year career, Anvil seemed to be getting its due with the release of the well-received documentary, Anvil: the Story of Anvil.
However, when nominations for the upcoming Oscars were announced, it became clear that the selection panel of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science does not rock.
Snubbing two of the year’s biggest music films, the Oscars’ committee nominated neither the legendary Canadian rock group’s film, nor the year’s other big music documentary, It Might Get Loud, a guitar-themed doc featuring Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), The Edge (U2) and Jack White (White Stripes, Dead Weather, Raconteurs).
Michael Jackson’s blockbuster finale, This Is It, was released too late to be considered for the awards this year, but is likely a hot contender for next season’s prizes and tributes…if anyone still cares by then.
Rolling Stone reports that one music doc did make the list of nominations, Soundtrack for a Revolution (featuring the Blind Boys of Alabama, John Legend and others).
