ABOVE: ’60s folkies the Mamas and the Papas are known for hits like “California Dreamin’”, but according to their children, life was a nightmare.

We felt kind of sick when we read this earlier, so, obviously, we need to share it with you.

In the ’60s, the Mamas and the Papas were known for their lush West Coast vocal harmonies and hit songs such as “California Dreamin’” and “Monday Monday.”

A far cry from the group’s sunny music, one of the band’s founders, lead singer/songwriter John Phillips, is now being accused of having a sexual relationship with his daughter, actress/child star Mackenzie Philips, the young star of the hit ’70s sitcom One Day at a Time and the film American Graffiti.

The revelation comes from a shocking article published by People Magazine previewing Mackenzie’s sure to be controversial new memoir, High on Arrival.

On September 23, Phillips is scheduled to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show in a program titled, “First Interview: Former Child Star Mackenzie Phillips’ Stunning Revelations: Mackenzie Phillips speaks out on the heroin and cocaine bust, Mick Jagger and the explosive family secret she says she’s kept for 31 years.”

In addition to the disturbing revelations about her relationship with her father, Phillips accuses him of supplying her with drugs at a young age. Mackenzie’s life and career have been messy tabloid fodder for decades thanks to her struggles with addiction. In 2008, she was arrested at a California airport on charges of cocaine possession.

Mackenzie has several siblings, including half-sisters actress Bijou Phillips and singer Chynna Phillips of the singing group Wilson Phillips.

John Phillips died in 2001.
