80s Flashback Friday: The Unnecessary Reunion of Spandau Ballet

Reunion tours are all the rage lately, with Jane’s Addiction patching things up and hitting the road with Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt luring Gwen Stefani back into the fold for a summer tour, and Phish getting back together (see, sometimes we can mention Phish without saying something mean).

Now you can add one more band to your reunion tour schedule: Spandau Ballet.

Wait. What?

Remember Spandau Ballet? They scored a hit all the way back in Margaret Thatcher-ruled 1983 with the song, “True.” And then they had another hit with, um, well, that was pretty much it, actually. A sample from the song was revived by positive ’90s hip-hop lite act, PM Dawn (see video, above for some ’90s nostalgia).

We’re not entirely sure why this Spandau Ballet reunion is happening, but our guess is that the band members’ wives chipped in and bought them some plane tickets because they were tired of seeing the guys flopped out on the sofa, watching American Idol (or, X Factor, since they’re Brits), and telling the bored neighborhood kids stories about how they used to be super-famous.

Or something like that.

Apparently, tickets are already sold-out for the band’s gig at London’s 02 Arena (home of Michael Jackson’s upcoming “farewell” gigs). Check out the rest of the tour dates, here

What ’80s band would you actually like to see get together for a reunion tour?

The REAL Guns’n’ Roses, maybe?
