In the ’90s, Hollywood’s go-to group for over-the-top melodramatic power-ballads was Aerosmith (think, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Armageddon).
With his first post-American Idol foray back into the spotlight, runner-up Adam Lambert seems to be taking aim for Aerosmith’s throne—and he just might get it.

Adam Lambert’s “Time for Miracles” (listen, below) is the star-making single from the soundtrack to the upcoming CGI-fueled boneheaded disaster flick, 2012.
Although fans waiting for Lambert’s experimental electronic rock masterpiece might be disappointed, Idol fans—and fans of poppy, radio-friendly rock in general—will surely warm up to Lambert’s ballad.
As will undoubtedly be true of the movie itself, there are no surprises here. Although Lambert’s performance is nearly unassailable (his ear-clawing falsetto is thankfully kept in check) “Time for Miracles” is strictly by-the-numbers, sentimental soft-rock balladry fit for a middle-school mixtape or blockbuster soundtrack (although, as Reality Rocks points out, the song has some unexpected rock cred courtesy of songwriters Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age/ Eleven/Spinnerette and his late partner Natasha Shneider).
The complete 2012 soundtrack, including “Time for Miracles,” hits stores November 10.
Do you think Lambert should do more ballads like this, or stick with rock?
