Aerosmith Singer, 61, Airlifted after Fall from Stage

According to reports posted on the official website for legendary rock band Aerosmith, 61-year-old singer Steven Tyler was airlifted to a hospital in South Dakota Wednesday evening after falling from a tall stage during a performance at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Tyler reportedly fell midway through the band’s concert, as he had been dancing in an exaggerated manner to entertain fans during some technical difficulties with the sound system during the show. Following his fall, Tyler was taken backstage and it was announced that the show could not continue.

According to the band’s website, Mike Sanborn, who is the spokesman for the concert venue/event, has stated that the singer suffered apparently minor head, neck and shoulder injuries in the fall.

This is not the first injury to strike the band. In recent years, the senior group has dealt with ailments including throat cancer (Tom Hamilton), knee replacement (Joe Perry) and head injuries (Hamilton, again). In June, the band was forced to cancel several concerts due to Steven Tyler’s leg injury sustained during a concert performance.

Details regarding the severity of Tyler’s injuries have not been confirmed. Information on concert dates and possible cancelations will be posted when it becomes available.
