Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, as far as I can tell,” guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper following weeks of speculation.

The members of the 40-year-old Boston rock band have indicated that they are considering hiring a replacement for Tyler.

Considering some rather cruel comments made about Tyler by Perry recently, news that the band has officially called it quits may not come as a shock.

Recently, the band has been plagued by injury (everything from replaced knees and head injuries to cancer and a broken shoulder), with 61-year-old Tyler’s frightening fall from a high stage during a concert in August causing the band to postpone its current tour while he recovered.

During the hiatus, Perry made no effort to hide his negative feelings about the delay and his difficult relationship with Tyler. With the Aerosmith tour canceled, Perry took the opportunity to usurp Aerosmith’s press attention to hock his new solo disc, Have Guitar, Will Travel.

The group finally reconvened for a show in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of the month, but, if reports of Tyler’s departure are factual, it may have been their last.

Aerosmith has yet to issue a formal statement on the subject. Stay tuned…
