Michael Jackson’s single glittery golf glove became an iconic symbol of the star’s global fame (and questionable fashion choices).
On Saturday, in an auction at the Times Square Hard Rock CafĂ© in NYC, the museum-worthy item was sold to a collector for the hefty sum of $420,000 ($350k + taxes/fees), according to a report published by the auction house responsible for the sale, Julien’s Auctions.
Prior to the auction, it had been estimated that the piece, which had been worn by Jackson during a TV special celebrating the 25th anniversary of Motown records, would sell for $40-60,000. As with many Jackson-related items, it far exceeded the estimate.
The music-themed auction also included items related to music stars ranging from from Elvis to the Beatles to Britney Spears.
Among the night’s least expensive items was a variety of clothing owned by Aerosmith (or is that ex-Aerosmith?) singer Steven Tyler, including a Grateful Dead t-shirt that sold for $62.50
