Rockabilly revivalist-turned-Christmas crooner Brian Setzer, 50, was rushed to a hospital after performing just three songs during a holiday concert in New Mexico on Monday, the Albuquerque Journal Online and AP report.
“Brian was briefly hospitalized in Albuquerque, NM last night after a combination of dehydration, high altitude, and vertigo made him unable to continue his performance at the Isleta Casino after several songs,” according to the statement released December 15 via Setzer’s official website.
“Brian has completely recovered and will perform tonight at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix, AZ, and will continue with the remainder of the tour uninterrupted.”
Setzer rose to fame as the leader of the Stray Cats, a New York rockabilly/pop act trading in slick riffs and affable revivalism. The group is best known for its eponymous hit “Stray Cat Strut.”
In the ’90s, Setzer launched a successful career touring with his own 17-piece big band, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, performing swing-themed hits and staging elaborate Christmas-themed tours.
