ABOVE: Country radio DJs debate whether Brooks & Dunn’s career was dead before the break up.
Bad news, country music fans: Brooks & Dunn are takin’ off their dancin’ boots and calling it quits.
The duo was once at the top of the country charts with linedance-inspiring hits like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” but in recent years it seems that they’ve been outshined by newer duos, such as Big & Rich and Sugarland.
Now, country radio DJs and music fans are debating whether the band is calling it quits too soon, or whether the duo’s career has been dead and buried for several years.
Do you think it is time for Brooks & Dunn to break up?
Is it just us, or are the mustaches kinda creepy?
Read Brooks & Dunn’s letter to fans (below).
It’s actually pretty heartless and unemotional, for a breakup letter.
When Brooks & Dunn debuted with Brand New Man in 1991, the pair rocketed to the top of the charts, a position the country stars would become quite familiar with over the next decade and a half.
Many country fans are still shocked by news that the pair has decided to call it a day: after over a dozen albums (including a Christmas album and at least two greatest hits collections), numerous awards (Grammys, Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards), countless concerts and string of hits; including, “Ain’t Nothin’ Bout You,” “Neon Moon,” “Play Something Country” and “Beer Thirty.”
Before going their separate ways for good, the guys have announced plans to release a greatest hits album and embark on a final tour, the Last Rodeo. (Check back for complete tour dates)
Brooks & Dunn’s Letter to Fans, PLUS More Country Music News:
In a letter to fans posted online, the duo explains the breakup to fans, in fairly cold terms:
“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have
agreed as a duo that it’s time to call it a day. This ride has been
everything and more than we could ever have dreamed…. We owe it all
to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just
time.
We will release our #1’s and then some” on September 8th and bid
you farewell one last time in 2010, with The Last Rodeo Tour…(dates to be
announced).

Unofficially, the split is said to be because Ronnie Dunn wanted to step out on his own.

I really don’t think that it is time for B&D to split up. They may have been doing this for 20 years but they are still extremely talented in what they do. I am just glad to say that I will be at their last concert here in Des Moines at the Fair! Hopefully they will come close to Iowa for their farewell tour in 2010. They will be missed by all their fans!

I agree, I do not yet think it is time. I have seen many of their shows and each one is always great and the crowds are always into the music. However, I wish them success in whatever the future has in store!
