Unspecified health issues have caused former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill to cancel her upcoming European tour, seemingly putting a major damper on her bid for a return to the spotlight.

Known for songs such as “That Thing” and a cover of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” the critically-acclaimed singer rose to fame with the Fugees (featuring Wyclef Jean), before stepping out on her own with 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

The singing star essentially dropped out of sight following the album’s release, save for a short-lived Fugees reunion and an acoustic album which was met with mixed reviews.

Hill’s suddenly-cancelled tour dates in Europe, including a prestigious slot headlining Sweden’s Stockholm Jazz Festival, would’ve marked a significant comeback attempt for the reclusive star.

Hill’s most recent recorded effort was “Lose Myself,” for the 2007 animated penguin movie, Surf’s Up.
