Teen pop sensation and movie star Miley Cyrus has been involved in a serious automobile accident which left one person dead and others injured.

The tour bus of the headline-making Disney star overturned on a road near Richmond, VA, after striking an embankment, AP reports.

The identity of those killed or injured in the crash has not been revealed, however it is known that Cyrus was not on the bus at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but speed and weather are not considered factors at this time by authorities.

The bus in the accident was one of four en route to Greensboro, N.C., where Cyrus is scheduled to perform Sunday. No  word on whether this accident will cause Sunday’s show to be canceled.

Do STP fans want an album of new songs, or just a tour filled with hits?

Stone Temple Pilots fans were thrilled to see these ’90s rockers back in action over the summer, but now it looks like things are coming to an unexpected halt on the tour track as the group is cancelling scheduled dates in order to finish recording an album of new material.

The official statement posted on the band’s website simply says, “STP are postponing the December and January dates until next year so the band can finish their highly anticipated record which will be coming out in the early spring of next year.”

No apology to fans who are bummed about the cancelled gigs? Nice, fellas.

So, do fans want new music from STP? Or are you more excited to hear the band tear through live versions of the old hits?

Interestingly, if the band does manage to make it back to touring, the group’s website offers a feature that allows fans to create the playlist for each concert.

In other news, fans of STP frontman Scott Weiland’s other band, Velvet Revolver (featuring apparent fan-hater Slash), are still waiting for that group to find a replacement for him now that he has rejoined his original group.

ABOVE: After 40 years, Aerosmith’s train may have finally stopped rolling. Will fans accept a new singer?

It has been a dramatic few weeks for Aerosmith, to say the least.

After a seemingly jinxed tour plagued by injury, both common (twisted knee) and bizarre (singer dances right off the front of the stage), the band recently made headlines as guitarist Joe Perry announced that singer Steven Tyler had left the band. Set to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the band is now faced with the challenge of finding a new singer.

Of course, break-ups are never quite that simple.

Tyler then shocked everyone as he  jumped on stage during one of Perry’s solo concerts so that he could sing an Aerosmith song and announce that he was still in the band.  According to Perry, Tyler then promptly disappeared, again.

Finally, after weeks of this nonsense, comes word that the band is in fact concerned about Tyler, who, until now, they’d merely seemed to be annoyed by. The singer’s increasingly erratic behavior is causing the band to worry about long-in-recovery Tyler’s sobriety.

Well, duh. We’re glad somebody finally said it though.

According to a blurb from the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone, drummer Joey Kramer elusively states that he wants Tyler to take care of his “health,” while guitarist Brad Whitford hits the matter more directly by saying that Tyler isn’t acting like a sober person and that he may be in a tough spot because “full blown recovery is a difficult thing to pull off.”

In recent months, Tyler had been accused of returning to his reckless ways after spending a stint in a recovery facility—something he later attributed not to drug use, but to his need to ” recover from a foot injury” in a quiet place.

We wish Tyler and the rest of the band the best, but expect the worst.

Once known as Andy Warhol’s house band, the Velvet Underground  is the archetypal NYC band that spawned devotees (and brazen imitators) ranging from Jonathan Richman to the Strokes. Now, the revered group has announced sudden plans for an unexpected reunion—but there’s a catch, of course.

Unfortunately, that big reunion is not a concert; instead, the regrouping of members Lou Reed, Mo Tucker and Doug Yule comes as part of a presentation of the new visual collection, The Velvet Underground: New York Art an event being held at the least rock’n'roll venue imaginable: the library. (Just kidding, bookworms, we dig the stacks.)

The New York Public Library calls the event the return of the Beatles of New York, and while we’re not sure how accurate that is, we are certain that VU fans will be excited to hear the group’s firsthand accounts of sex, drugs, rock and art in the NYC of the ’60s, ’70s and beyond.

The event is being hosted by David Fricke, a writer likely best known as a senior editor at Rolling Stone magazine.

Known for songs such as “Sweet Jane,” “Heroin” and “I’m Waiting for the Man,” the Velvet Underground briefly reunited for a tour in 1992, nearly 20 years after its original split.

Original guitarist Sterling Morrison passed away in 1995.

Paul McCartney seems to be re-launching the British Invasion his band first spearheaded all those decades ago. It has just been announced that McCartney has been named the latest winner of the Library of Congress’s prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

The first non-American winner, McCartney is the third recipient of the award following Paul Simon (2007) and Stevie Wonder (2009).

“As a great admirer of the Gershwins’ songs, I am highly honored to be given the Gershwin Prize by such a great institution as the Library of Congress,” McCartney said of the award in a statement present on the LoC website.

The 67-year-old Beatle has been making headlines in recent months thanks to a string of historic concerts marking the end of Shea Stadium, the release of Beatles Rock Band video game (which hasn’t spawned a lawsuit, yet) and the re-release of the Beatles catalog, first on CD and now on a non-iTunes digital release: a $279 USB memory stick shaped like, what else, a big, green apple.

If you’ve any money in your pockets after all of that, McCartney is also unleashing a new CD/DVD this week, “Good Evening New York City.”

Lady Gaga has been making plenty of headlines lately thanks to her deluxe reissue of the Fame (now dubbed the Fame Monster), her collaboration with Adam Lambert, and her wild new “Bad Romance” music video filled with all manner of “Thriller” fetishists and dancing ghouls.

However, news broke this morning that the chart-topping drama queen won’t be queen of the Grammys when the nominations are announced in December, report sources such as Variety and NYT’s ArtsBeat.

Although many fans and critics had pegged her highness as a sure-shot for the Best New Artist trophy, the theatrical singer is ineligible in the category because she has previously been nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Just Dance”—which means she isn’t technically going to be a “new artist” this year. Makes sense.

It might be a shock that Gaga won’t win the big prize, but we’d be surprised if the Grammy folks don’t call on her to give an over-the-top performance during the awards show broadcast anyway.

On the plus side, Gaga might actually be dodging a bullet by missing out on this category: the Best New Artist Award is widely considered to be a career curse (previous winners have included disappearing acts such as Amy Winehouse and Paula Cole).

ABOVE: Bob Dylan’s strangely chipper new Christmas album might be the weirdest thing he’s done since appearing in this creepy lingerie ad.

With a Christmas album, Christmas in the Heart,  that hit stores just in time for Halloween, it seems fitting that Bob Dylan has released the CD’s debut music video just in time for another non-Christmas holiday: Thanksgiving.

The new clip for “Must Be Santa” features Dylan leading the holiday polka at a swanky baby-boomer house party while wearing a variety of hats (including a mad hatter-esque top hat and Santa hat, both of which apparently have Jennifer Aniston wigs sewn inside).

After watching party guests peer out of the windows in anticipation, the man in red himself appears in time to see a fight erupt at the party. The whole thing feels more like the eerie opening scene of a Tim Burton musical or Greek row horror flick than the climax of a feel-good holiday classic.

Hearing the croaky icon breathlessly spit out gobs of Christmas cheer is almost as uncomfortable as seeing him leering in the shadows of a Victoria’s Secret commercial (yeah, Bob, we’re still creeped out by that commerical).

However, seeing Dylan involved in all of this Christmas hoopla really makes us wish that Disney had cast him in the latest reworking of A Christmas Carol rather than the insufferable Jim Carrey.

Maybe next time.

Proceeds from Dylan’s Christmas album, Christmas in the Heart, go to benefit Feeding America as well as charities devoted to fighting hunger around the world.

In a statement from Dylan on his official website, he says “It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone — 12 million of those children - often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from.”

According to Dylan, he joined “the good people of Feeding America in the hope that our efforts can bring some food security to people in need during this holiday season.”

Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to be the Boss.

At a concert in Auburn Hills, Michigan on Friday the 13^th, Bruce Springsteen risked turning the entire crowd against him as he repeatedly uttered the most offensive four-letter word imaginable: Ohio.

With a longstanding rivalry in place between fans of Ohio State and  Michigan football, the Boss risked a riot as he repeatedly made references to how nice it was to be playing in the Buckeye State, having apparently forgotten the location of his current tour stop.

Springsteen’s fans are probably much too devout to let a little thing like a sports rivalry ruin a night of classic rock; however, just to be safe, when Springsteen made the mistake for the third time, guitarist/actor/garage rock radio guru Little Steven Van Zandt pulled him aside to correct his geographical error.

The temporary confusion is understandable considering 60-year-old Springsteen’s relentless tour schedule,  and reports from the show make it clear that although he was flustered by his fumble, the Boss was still in top shape musically.

Just to help Bruce keep things straight, this is Michigan:

Ohio is the one with the Rock’n'Roll Hall of Fame…a place the Boss might know a thing or two about.

Taylor Swift swept the 43^rd annual CMA awards ceremony and became the youngest performer to win the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. This week, Boston rockers Aerosmith announced that they were looking for a new singer because, according to guitarist Joe Perry, Steven Tyler quit the band.

Tyler, however, begs to differ.
