Last week punk poet Jim Carroll (of “People Who Died” fame) passed away at age 59.

Today marks the sad anniversary of another punk’s passing: On this day in 2004 Johnny Ramone, influential guitarist of the Ramones, passed away at age 55 due to prostate cancer.

Over the weekend, Kanye West made headlines after acting like a spoiled brat at the 2009 VMAs and attacking Taylor Swift on stage.

On this day in 1984, MTV aired the first edition of its now notorious Video Music Awards, so we’re taking a look at some VMA highlights in today’s music quiz.

Daily Music Quiz: Roger Daltry and Jack Kerouac’s Brother

Today’s music trivia challenge comes courtesy of a band whose two guitarist share a September 10 birthday.

This California rock/alt-country group’s 1996 hit was sort of a bitter, update of the Who’s 1965 anthem, “My Generation”. The band also scored hits with songs about headless movie starlets and junkie cosmonauts (although our favorite is the one about Jack Kerouac’s brother).

BONUS: Can you name the band’s two guitarists celebrating birthdays today?

HINT: This band’s lead singer/guitarist was previously the star of a popular ’80s indie-rock band. That band was recently reformed, and this busy musician now records and tours with both successful groups.
