Scores of celebrities turned out yesterday in Las Vegas to play in a poker tournament with the proceeds going to charities working in Darfur, according to an Associated Press report. Among those playing no limit Texas Hold “˜Em were Hollywood stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Alexander, George Lopez, Adam Sandler and Ray Romano.

According to the AP report, players donated prize money from the second annual “Ante Up for Africa” event to charities working in the Darfur region of Sudan. Cheadle and poker pro Annie Duke started the event last year to raise money and bring attention to the troubles in the region, where more than 300,000 people have died and 2.5 million have been displaced since ethnic warfare began in 2003.

The tournament benefited two charities “” ENOUGH, a project co-founded in 2007 by the International Crisis Group and the Center for American Progress and Not On Our Watch, a group co-founded by Cheadle, Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

This is a nice way to raise awareness for the cause, but let's hope the celebs"”and their wealthy friends"”donated money in addition to the poker prize.
