In an interview with the online ‘zine Alternative Addiction, Chris Cornell is finally standing up to defend his new, nearly unlistenable album, Scream.

“I’m thrilled with the album that I made,” Cornell told the zine. ”I think it’s really exciting, I have listened to it as much or more than any album I have ever made.”

He may be the only one listening to this album. (And, we’re willing to bet that in a few months, he’ll admit this album is bad and make up some excuse about how he didn’t have complete control, or some nonsense like that.)

A strangely misguided collaboration between Cornell and Timbaland, Scream finds the ex-Alt-Rock icon exploring a sound filled with electronic flourishes, cringe-inducing lyrics, needlessly AutoTune processed vocals so weak they might be mistaken for Kanye West (hopefully Cornell won’t sink to lip-synching on his upcoming tour).

The reviews have ranged from lukewarm to cruel (”….enjoyable, at least in a monkey-riding-a-tricycle sort of way.”)

Keep reading for a few of our favorite quotes about Scream, an album that Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor called “embarrassing” in his  recent Twitter review.

If you’ve actually heard this album, we’d like to know what you think about it, too.

The L.A. Times wrote that Scream, “is a fascinating but heartbreaking document of how many wrong decisions one can make in writing and performing a record.”

Spin Online was generous in its 2-and-a-half star rating for the album, but said, “As Akon knockoffs go, some of this stuff isn’t bad…” Adding that the albums was, “…enjoyable, at least in a monkey-riding-a-tricycle sort of way.”

Rolling Stone online declares that the album, “veers between drab-sleek and rock-dude soulful” and gives the album two stars, which is fairly shocking for this “we love everything” magazine.

So, have you heard this album?
