Courtney Love to Sue Guitar Hero 5: “I Loathe it and Kurt Would, Too”

The release of Guitar Hero 5 was met with negative reactions from many music fans due to its inclusion of Kurt Cobain as a playable character capable not only of singing  Nirvana songs, but of dancing and lips-synching to hits by everyone from Bon Jovi to Bush. (See video below).

So what do Cobain’s widow and his Nirvana bandmates think about it?

In a statement released by Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures) and Krist Novoselic, Cobain’s Nirvana bandmates admit they are “dismayed” over Cobain’s portrayal in the game and hope that the company will at least adjust the game so that his avatar can only perform Nirvana songs.

We think the game is still pretty disgusting, even if Cobain only plays his own songs. In fact, we sort of hate Guitar Hero anyway. If you want to play guitar-play a real guitar. If you want to play a videogame, go play Donkey Kong or Grand Theft whatever.

Many fans have directed their outrage at Cobain’s widow, the veritable trouble magnet Courtney Love. However, the always outspoken Love is standing up for herself and lashing out at angry fans and threatening to take legal action against Activision, the company behind the popular videogame.

Throughout the nearly endless stream of rants posted to her twitter account yesterday, Courtney made it clear that she is upset with the game’s portrayal of Cobain, she believes the company violated the terms of their contract and the whole ordeal is embarrassing to her teenage daughter, Frances Bean.

Tweeted Love on September 10, 2009:

“now theyre just LIQUIDATING kurt and IM THE DEVIL? I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH GUITAR HERO I LOATHE IT AND FIND IT ODIOUS KURT WOULD HAVE TOO.”

“never did i intend on allowing GUITARHERO for me or for Kurt i am NOT yoko fucking Ono no ofense to her, but i am a different person entirely and this is insane.”

It remains to be seen whether Love actually has a legitimate legal case, or whether she’s just acting out to save face after Cobains fans turned on her, again.
