ABOVE: Carly Smithson, AKA, Carly Hennessy, stars in her own very embarrassing homemade infomercial full of horrible pop songs and shallow declarations like, “I always wanted to be famous…Every little girl wants to be a pop star.”
Following their split with singer Amy Lee, the ex-members of Evanescence have teamed up with controversial American Idol cast-off Carly Smithson to form a new band called the Fallen (the name is borrowed from Evanescence’s breakthrough album, Fallen).
In addition to sharing some of Lee’s striking physical traits (jet black hair and light blue eyes), Irish-born Smithson has some experience singing Lee’s songs: She routinely performed “Bring Me to Life” during her time on the American Idol: Idols Live tour.
One of the most controversial contestants to appear on the show in recent seasons, many outraged viewers called for Smithson to be expelled from the Idol competition after it was revealed that she had released a disastrous major label album in 2001 (the album, Ultimate High, was released under the name Carly Hennessy). Skeptical Evanescence fans might want to check out the horrible pop and silly video of Carly’s “I’m Gonna Blow Your Mind.”
Many viewers felt that the show should be a forum for new talent, not industry has-beens. Smithson was eventually eliminated due to low vote totals.
It remains to be seen whether Smithson will be able to win over a rock audience, but based on some of her musical past, it seems that she aspires to be Britney Spears, not Joan Jett.
Smithson and the Fallen are currently offering fans a sneak preview of their forthcoming album in the form of a free download of lead single, “Bury Me Alive.”
Hmm…the title reminds us of Evanescence’s hit “Bring Me to Life.” So far the band name and song title aren’t very original, guess we’ll have to check out the song and see if the music just sounds like an Evanescence cover band.
We’re pretty sure it will.

Obviously, she is trying to be Amy Lee , and the band is trying to be Evanescence. but, I’m looking forward to listening to their music. Ben is good at pop music. Having listened to kelly clarkson’s because of you and Evanescence’s first album The Fallen, I know that he can compose the good pop song which Amy can’t do it.

She is just trying to be Amy Lee, right down to taking the band name from Evanescence’s first album. If I was Amy I would have something to say about this. They made the choice to leave, Ben even abandoned the bad mid-tour so they don`t have a right to use the name or the songs. She is trying to be something she will never be, Amy Lee.

To Juan - Carly’s not the pop princess that you see in the first video - it’s the image that the label pushed on her when they brought her to the U.S. Don’t be so quick to assume you know someone, just because they’re in the public eye - you are just showing your ignorance! Carly has worked hard for years to get to this point and she deserves all the success she’s going to achieve.

Carly’s my first cousin - I used to babysit her growing up - so yes, I know her and I know everything she’s been through to get to this point.
She’s not trying to be like Amy - that’s who she is, which is why the band chose her.
Juan - tell me why you are “shamed”. What have you done that’s worth listening to other than these pathetic scribbles - moaning about other people that have achieved something you could never do…

There is absolutely nothing wrong with her. Carly and Amy are two very beautifully amazing people with the same talent. I don’t understand why people have to blow up about this. She is a wonderful singer but they do sound different if you listen! Leave her and her band to be, and enjoy that we even get amazing music like this to listen to.
I think it’s silly to just get mad and upset about something like this, if you don’t like (We are) The Fallen then don’t listen to them! Making a scene about it is going to make more people upset…There is no point to the complaining it WONT do anything.

Good luck to this band, as well. I mean, pretty much what’s going to happen? They don’t have the same benefits that Evanescence had… They are going to have to work really really hard to get the fanbase Evanescence has.. And amy.. Besides, Part of what Evanescence is — is the amazing orchestration provided by AMY LEE. They won’t sound the same.. They might sound like ‘Fallen” obviously but Evanescence has evolved.. And as for the live performances?? Amy Lee is a rock. chic. ROCKER. She rocks the f— out and she’s not as worried about her appearance/hitting the notes because she’d rather put on a show: headbanging, dancing around the stage. She doesn’t just stand in one spot… HOWEVER, Carly seems a bit newer at this rock thing. If she really tries she can take this band high! Good luck, and I hope to hear them on the radio soon!
