It seems Gloria Estefan will do anything for her jobless fans in Puerto Rico.
The Latin superstar bought some 2,000 tickets for her weekend concert in the U.S. territory and will distribute them by raffle amongst 17,000 government workers who learned they will be laid-off as of November 6, according to an Associated Press report.
Estefan bought all the remaining upper-level tickets - at $40 each - as a gift to those who were affected, said a spokesman for the singer. Officials have begun to distribute the tickets to various government agencies, which will raffle them off.
According to the AP, Puerto Rico is facing a $3.2 billion budget deficit and 15 percent unemployment. The government announced the layoffs in late September to help close the budget gap.
Tickets to the seven-time Grammy winner’s Saturday concert range from $40 to $125. So far, about 8,000 tickets are spoken for.
