Ok, after watching just enough of last night’s American Music Awards’ tepid performances, poorly lip-synched dance routines and rambling speeches to be completely bored senseless, it’s time to bring up an important issue: We are sick of Kanye West and the Pussycat Dolls.
First, Kanye. Somehow, Kanye has managed to endear himself to clueless pop music fans and trend-hopping hipsters who, in their clumsy attempts to pretend they “get” hip-hop, have chosen Kanye as the obligatory rapper of choice. Hipsters used to profess love for clever or socially-conscious hip-hop acts such as the Roots or Common (or truly hilarious Dr. Octagon/Kool Keith), but these days folks are settling for Kanye—but why?
Aside from having a cute cartoon bear serve as his mascot on album covers and in videos, there is very little to admire about Kanye’s inability to sing without the always-horrible use of Auto Tune (listen and download free Kanye West Heartless mp3). Then, there’s his baseless boasting, including last night’s televised declaration that he wanted to be Elvis (who, by the way, did not need Auto Tune). Not to mention the way he pouts and throws childish tantrums anytime he doesn’t win an award. Um, unsportsmanlike much? Besides, is making music/art all about winning dumb statues and fattening your bank account? Sure seems like that’s the only thing that interests Kanye.
Another thing we have to mention after the 2008 AMAs is something we’ve brought up before, but it’s worth mentioning again: The Pussycat Dolls SUCK. Seriously. Sure, it’s fun to see skanky girls dance around in stripper clothes—but, for crying out loud—don’t give them microphones. We’ve never actually been to a strip club (honest), but we’re pretty sure that most places don’t give the gals microphones—and the Pussycat Dolls prove that there is a reason for that: They can’t sing.
Although, PCD (that’s fancy slang for Pussycat Dolls) mostly lip-synch anyway, the tracks they lip-synch to are horrible to begin with. So, add a few stray cats yowling over the top of the pre-recorded tracks and you’ve got the recipe for a ruckus deserving of a visit from the local animal catcher (or exterminator).
Of course, lots of other performances from the AMAs were horrible, too. Leona Lewis over-sings almost as much as Christina Aguilera and Beyonce, Pink was hilariously introduced as “one of the greatest artists of our time” or some such nonsense and, for reasons mere mortals cannot comprehend, Rihanna performed clad in a sparkly eyepatch (which covered her eye, but not her awful vocals).
Chris Brown won a few awards, but he uses that same horrible robot-voice Auto Tune voice processor that Kanye uses—and it’s horrible.
What happened to pop music, America? Was it always this bad? Why are we buying the garbage that the record companies are selling us?

I agree 100%. Kanye West’s music is total crap. His rap and lyrics are mediocre at best but his singing is absolutely awful. The man can’t sing and that’s fine… I cant sing either but Kanye is such an arrogant a**hole it is unreal. He thinks so highly of himself, compares himself to Elvis, and says “I am rap”.
Kanye West you are NOT rap. You are crap sir, pure crap. Jump off a bridge and make room for real artists please.

I agree 100% Kanye West is pathetic. His latest appearance on American Idol speaks volumes - how can the masses out there think this guy has talent?
He’s had one song - golddigger that was at best - mediocre - everything else - crap. I agree with 50 - this guy sucks and needs to go away.

THIS MORON IS HORRIBLE! I’ve seen Kanyay do maybe 5 songs over the past 2 years on TV or whatever. HE SUCKS! I CAN’T BELIEVE HE’S SO SUCCESSFUL! Every time I watch him it’s a train wreck. I mean this guy is horrible. His singing is awful and his lyrics/rhymes are sophmoric. Why do so many people think he has talent? He is HORRIBLE!

Kanye has absolutely no talent. Only an absolute idiotic loser would think that Kanye has talent. He cannot sing, rap, dress, talk,. An absolute embarrassment to blacks. Anyone who thinks Kanye has talent, is a loser, their kids, grand kids etc would all become losers.

I wonder why the REAL MCs aren’t taking a stand against this self-proclaimed “End-All Be-All” of music… especially when most REAL MCs would dedicate at least 2 tracks off an album to smaller issues. THE INDUSTRY NEEDS TO TAKE A STAND FOR ITSELF. Kanye, you’ve never been good; you got ahold of a couple good sample loops & milked em.

I agree that pretty much all rap or whatever is being sold to the masses is truly something that needs to be questioned. Kanye west is just terrible, i enjoyed watching a free style battle with kanye vs mos def and i think mos def is really singing about things that are worth listening about like the social traps of the poor and racial battles whereas, kanye’s free style was about designer bags and people hatting on him about all his money bassically (youtube it im sure you will agree).
Kanye even thinking about himself influenced, inspired, or that he’s like ELVIS is truly a knock on music i mean it is poetry and Kanye and like artists are just spewing out shit that isn’t holding any substance what so ever (lil john, bow wow, 50 cents, and sure theres more i don’t know of). The use of the auto voice tech is just a slap in the face of art i mean that’s just not right i think that’s why i basically hate rap and hip hop.
I don’t want to waste to much of my thoughts on the watse of time and space the Pussycat Dolls: the name alone hurts womens rights i mean what kind of role models are these people?! My frustration is to much with these types of acts/
I do like The Beatles of course,Paul McCartney, Elvis, buddy Holly, U2 mostly, Eric Clapton, The Who, Keane, some Coldplay, Wings,BECK, and a new taste to my ears “Pheonix” french band not bad. These artists and groups are those who i respect and listen too now, i want to purchase there albumns and not ripp them off. I respect rappers like Mos Def for his choice of issue for lyrics, and as an actor so, i don’t compleltyhate hip hop, rap, and whatever r&b is?
