ABOVE: Madonna’s music is often painfully bad, but the star’s live show turned deadly during concert preparations in France on Thursday.

Plans for Madonna’s concert in the French city of Marseille may be on hold amid reports of fatalities and injuries incurred when her stage collapsed on Thursday. Numbers are still changing, but reports currently indicate that two workers were killed by the collapse, with at least eight others seriously injured and dozens more suffering less severe injuries and shock.

In an official statement released by Madonna, the singer says, “I am devastated to have just received this tragic news. My prayers go out to those who were injured and their Families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.” The statement was released by Madonna’s official website following the accident on Thursday. The singer was reportedly in Udine, Italy at the time she was given the news.

The deadly collapse occurred as workers were constructing the stage for Madonna’s scheduled concert in Marseille on Sunday. Details of the accident and of its potential impact on Sunday’s show are still developing. Stay tuned for details as they emerge.

Currently on tour in suppor of her latest album, Hard Candy, Madonna has been making headlines in recent weeks due to her struggle to adopt another child from Malawi.
