After putting her foot in her mouth at a recent concert and causing controversy, Madonna is letting her shoes do the talking this time.
The pop diva has offered one of her favorite pairs of Christian Dior shoes to a charity supporting Gypsy child education, according to an Associated Press report. According to the AP, the Madonna-autographed shoes with the towering gold heels will be raffled off at the Ovidiu Rom annual ball later this month.
Madonna drew international attention during a concert in August in Bucharest, Romania, when she commented that discrimination against Gypsies in Eastern Europe should end. Afterward, she was booed by thousands of concert-goers.
“Madonna’s very mild comment regarding equality shone a spotlight on a common European attitude toward Gypsies,” Leslie Hawke, president of Ovidiu Rom, was quoted as saying. “We’re thrilled to have her donation because she is such an icon of innovation and vigor and ‘can do’ spirit.”
This year’s donations also include a gold chain from actress Vanessa Redgrave.
