We’ve all made jokes about the price of Starbucks, but one well-known singer-songwriter is accusing the popular coffee chain of ripping her off to the tune of over $1 million dollars.

Known for hits ranging from “You’re So Vain” to “Anticipation,” singer-songwriter Carly Simon has been a prominent music figure since the early ’70s. From her high-profile relationships with musicians Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens and Kris Kristofferson to a failed marriage to fellow soft-pop star James Taylor, the star has endured musical and personal ups and downs, but few could’ve predicted that her latest musical venture would end with the star taking on Starbucks.

ArtsBeat has the complete details, but the gist of the case is that the coffee company was dabbling in the music industry a couple of years ago and offered Simon a hefty sum of cash in exchange for a CD to be marketed extensively, but not exclusively, at Starbucks.

However, the company altered the deal, cut support and lowered its payment, leaving Simon with bills for recording sessions and the weight of (potentially) lost earnings and debt after the company pulled its support and promotion of the disc.

Simon’s CD, This Kind of Love, was released in 2008.

She is currently filing a suit against Starbucks seeking $5-to-$10 million.
