ABOVE: Neil Diamond sings John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over).” Below, he sings about…seagulls, naturally.

Proving that Bob Dylan’s Christmas in the Heart might not be the strangest disc of Christmas songs you’ll come across this season, Neil Diamond is throwing his Santa hat into the ring with his Cherry Cherry Christmas CD.

Ok, so this is really Diamond’s third collection of Christmas and holiday songs, but this time around he includes a strangely serious (or at least very deadpan) cover of Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song.”

You’re welcome.

Actually, as silly as Diamond’s Christmas carols sometimes are, they are hardly shocking—after all, this is the man who once recorded a fairly psychedelic concept album/film soundtrack about seagulls.

Diamond’s first holiday tune since 1994, “Cherry Cherry Christmas” debuted at 26 on Billboard’s adult contemporary chart (a chart currently dominated by teenager Taylor Swift’s “You Belong with Me”).
