The next person to be booted off American Idol may not be a contestant, but Judge Paula Abdul. At least that’s what everyone was saying after last night’s nightmare in which Abdul hurriedly reviewed two songs sung by Jason Castro who, at that point, had only sung one.
The confusion came about on a night when the format was changed somewhat in that each of the five remaining contestants were asked to perform two songs and the judges were asked to refrain from lengthy comment until after the second songs were performed. At the end of the first round of Neil Diamond songs, host Ryan Seacrest asked the judges to give quick summations before moving on.
Jackson zipped through his appraisals, offering a few terse words for each before kicking it to a visibly flustered Abdul. “Jason, first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear, um ….” Then she continued: “The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn’t “” it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty.” The only problem was Castro hadn’t sung his second song yet.
After Abdul’s foul-up the contestants, Seacrest and the other judges all looked dumbstruck, but quickly pulled themselves together to come to Abdul’s aid and patch up the lapse. The show continued without incident.

Wow, Paula reviewed a performance that didn't happen yet? That's pretty crazy even for her! Or maybe she's psychic? Maybe it's time for her to take a vacation from Idol and try her luck on Dancing with the Stars?
