In his second trial for the shooting death of B-actress Lana Clarkson legendary record producer Phil Spector yesterday was found guilty of second degree murder, according to an Associated Press report.
The prosecution’s most valuable witness during the trial was Spector’s own chauffer who testified that he heard a gunshot, then saw Spector emerge holding a gun and heard him say: “I think I killed somebody.”
The jury decision came six years after the actress was found dead in the foyer of Spector’s Los Angeles mansion, and guarantees that the eccentric Spector, 69, will spend at least the next 18 years in jail. He showed no emotion when the verdict was announced, but his 28-year-old wife sobbed as it was delivered. Spector was led out of the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies and taken to jail immediately.
In a 2007 trial, the first jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of conviction. This time, jurors spent about 30 hours in deliberations before finding Spector guilty.
