Why the Phish Reunion is Actually Good News for Phish-Haters
Hippie-hating music fans rejoice: Phish has announced that it will reunite.
Wait? Is that good news for fans of good, non-jamband music?
Yes.
The announcement that one of the worst bands ever in the universe, Phish, will reunite is good news for people with good taste for one simple reason: Phish reunion=Fewer solo/side-projects, and thus, less awful music being produced by the members of Phish. At least if they’re all working together, they’ll probably only release a fraction as many horrible albums.
Plus, if the band goes back on tour, the wannabe hippies/stoners of the world will finally have a reason to get off of your sofa and out of your house…for a while, at least.
Granted, Phish-hating citizens will still suffer.
They will be forced to overhear endless discussions of what show was Phish’s greatest and why Phish is better than/completely different than the Grateful Dead (or at least why Phish Food is better than Cherry Garcia), as well as arguments over who has the biggest bootleg collection and what is Trey Anastasio’s greatest guitar solo.
So far, there are Phish reunion tour dates for shows March 6, March 7 and March 8, 2009, at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum. We’ll post additional tour dates and info as it becomes available.

Nobody hate phish fans, and all hippies for that matter, than me.That being said I was one of the biggest phish fans you will ever meet. It was hard for me to even give them a chance
because I hate hippies so much. But when I did I was blown away. The worst band ever? I am just curious to what bands this writer thinks are good. Whether or not you like their music it is an obtuse notion to call them bad. They are some of the finest musicians to ever live. I haven’t really listened to them in years but I feel compelled to come to their defense. But please tell me what kind of bands you like. Hear are some of my favorites elliot smith,ben folds, rougue wave,wilco,fleet foxes,ben solle, etc. What do you think of these bands

I think you’re making a good point about how sometimes a band’s fans can make the band seem unappealing. I agree.
As for the bands you mentioned (Elliot Smith, Ben Folds, Fleet Foxes, etc), some of ‘em are cool. I remember seeing Ben Folds at lollapalooza one year and, even though he’s not my favorite, the show was fun–in part, because the fans were cool, unpretentious and just having fun (like Ben).
I mostly dig some older rock’n'roll and rockabilly and some new garage rock (the byrds, eddie cochran, dirtbombs, etc). I’m pretty open to a lot of stuff though. Based on the bands you mentioned, you might like some of the old Byrds stuff, for that mellow elltio smith/fleet foxes/wilco vibe. Just a thought

I am a big fan - 110+ shows but the author is correct. Most of the side projects are tough to listen to. He doesn’t need to be {so mean} when expressing his opinion, but the truth is hidden in there. GO out and listen to any Mickey Hart album our anything by the Silvers (Brent Mydland’s group) or any song ever played by Vince Welnick. I really do love Phish - they were such an important part of me growing up. Final verdict. Side projects need work and yes the author of this page {is mean}.

LOl Why is this dude so worried about Phish? Must be jealous or something. Phish is a great band and plays great music, obviously you have opened up you mind to realize that. Its all good though we are all gonna like whatever we want, i just wanna know why we always have to be knocking eachother about stupid stuff like music. You dont see phish fans posting stuff about other bands, because we dont care, we like the music we like, we arent gonna hate on other people and there music. If you dont listen to it or dont like it, keep that to yourself. Either way though Phish is coming back!!!!!
