When R.E.M. was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, they managed to pull out all the stops and perform. This has come as a shock to many who never dreamed they’d see R.E.M. perform again ““ this is because Bill Berry, the group’s drummer, suffered a brain aneurysm onstage, in 1995.
R.E.M.’s reunion performance, which took place on Saturday, was their largest in a long time (for obvious reasons), but it was also well publicized. Reports of the event confirm that out of the 1,500 people who attended the induction ceremony, many were there for R.E.M. This may also have something to do with the fact that R.E.M. is a “homegrown” band indigenous to Athens, Georgia.
Other notables that were inducted into Georgia’s Music Hall of Fame were Gregg Allman (of the Allman Brothers), Jermaine Dupri, Dallas Austin, and more. Today’s inductees join the ranks of Ray Charles, the Indigo Girls, and Little Richard to name a few.

Music Vixen Says: It's cool that R.E.M. was inducted into their home-state's music hall of fame "“ when they were young rockers growing up, they must've looked forward to this day.
