If anyone else out there is bored stiff by all of the overly-sweet and spineless indie sounds sweeping the nation’s earbuds (Passion Pit? Vampire Weekend? Bat for Lashes? Pains of Being Pure at Heart? snore), then this blast of rock’n'roll noise will be a pleasant reminder that the sleepy cardigan rockers of the world haven’t won, yet.

If you don’t have merrily ringing ears and slightly scuffed dancing shoes after San Francisco noisemaker Ty Segall’s new disc, Lemons, finishes spinning, you must’ve done something wrong. Turn it up and try again.

Making the deal a little sweeter, Segall’s new disc is hitting shelves complete with the Goner Records imprint, which is about as good of an endorsement as any young noisemaker could hope to receive

Album opener “It #1″ thumps along with a primitive drum beat and scratchy howl that might call to mind a less-cartoonish version of Jack White and whatever band he’s helming at the moment (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather).

Other cuts hint at the throat-shredding garage gospel of the Oblivians and the Cramps, and while it’s really too soon to admit him into that league, Segall is certainly destined to be mentioned in the same breath as Jay Reatard, Willowz and Wavves in the meantime.

Flashes of the Kinks shine through Segall’s racket and, if you listen closely to the feral King Khan & BBQ-esque din, you can almost pick out traces of the Turtles, Ramones, Love, Primitives and a million other garage bands lost among the Nuggets.

Here’s hoping Segall keeps churning out ragged DIY discs like this with the prolificacy of basement weirdos like Robert Pollard.

Even for those not necessarily knee-deep in obscure ’60s rock references and dusty 7″ singles, Segall is at the very least offering positive proof that Guitar Hero, Green Day and American Idol haven’t completely thwarted the rock’n'roll spirit among the masses.

(Yeah, we’re a little behind on this one because we’re waiting for the vinyl to show up: Blame the post office.)
