VIDEO: Punk icon Iggy Pop sang Madonna hits when the Material Girl was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—will she return the favor?
Proving once again that rock’n'roll is a dead scene these days, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest round of inductees—because nothing says rock rebellion like joining the self-congratulatory ranks of this irrelevant club.
Although this year’s list of induction nominees included legitimate rockers such as the Stooges and KISS, it was also marred by some decidedly un-rock groups like ABBA, Donna Summer and LL Cool J.
So, which ones made the cut?
Sorry, Red Hot Chili Peppers—maybe next year.
Apparently, the glam-rockin, blood-spewing, money-grabbing, decades-spanning antics of KISS couldn’t quite compare to the sugary pop of Broadway’s favorite Swedish band, ABBA.
How “Dancing Queen” is more deserving of a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame than “Detroit Rock City” is completely, utterly beyond us.

The 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held March 5, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC.
Joining ABBA in the winners’ circle:
Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges
That’s right, in the Rock Hall’s opinion, Iggy Pop is just as (un)rockin’ as Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. Awesome.
David Geffen and songwriters Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Elle Greenwich, Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell will be inducted as individual recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s official website.
In related news, it was recently announced that the Rock Hall Annex in NYC will close permanently on January 3.
