Radiohead leader/vampire lover Thom Yorke is about to shock fans with news more astounding than his choice to hook up with the New Moon soundtrack.
Brace yourselves, folks, Yorke is about to get funky.
“In the past couple of weeks i’ve been getting a band together for fun to play the eraser stuff live and the new songs etc.. to see if it could work!,” explained Yorke via a post on Radiohead’s website earlier today, continuing “we don’t really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet!”
Ok, so rap-rocking Red Hot Chili Peppers style grooves or Funkadelic beats might not be in the cards for this experimental rock icon, but he has announced plans to debut a new band featuring RHCP bassist Flea.
At first, we were sort of horrified at the thought of Yorke unleashing some funk, but now, the more we think about it, the more we wonder if his Brit-rock falsetto could be applied to Prince-like numbers (or Michael Jackson covers…).
York’s new band, which features Flea along with drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, Smashing Pumpkins), Nigel Godrich (Radiohead producer) and percussionist Mauro Refosco is slated to make its debut October 4th and 5th, at Los Angeles’s Orpheum Theatre.
