Top 10 Rock Music Duets

November 5th, 2007 by Karen

Inspired by the unusual pairing of rocker Robert Plant and country gal Alison Krauss, earlier we took a look at some of country music’s more notable duets. So, it only seems fair that we should look at some noteworthy duets in the rock music world as well.

10. Aerosmith and Run DMC - “Walk This Way”

This oddball collaboration single-handedly spawned the rap-rock genre. Guess that means we can blame Aerosmith for Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Thanks a lot, fellas.

9. Sonny and Cher - “The Beat Goes On”

You don’t want to admit it, but you know you sing along whenever this groovy duo comes on the radio.

8. Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks - “Stop Dragging My Heart Around”

Millions of karaoke fans can’t be wrong.

7. Trent Reznor (nine inch nails) and Tori Amos - “Past the Mission”

We wanted them to be the weirdo version of Sonny and Cher. They’re weird alright, but it just didn’t catch on.

6. Mick Jagger and David Bowie - “Dancing in the Streets”

This duo is simply hilarious. It’s a great song, and their version is ok, but the video is positively hilarious.

5. Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne - “Close My Eyes Forever”

A bleach-blonde girl with a guitar singing a ballad with the Prince of Darkness? Absolutely!

4. Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash - “Girl from the North Country”

Cool pairing from 1969’s Nashville Skyline“¦long before Dylan was shilling for Victoria’s Secret in creepy TV commercials.

3. Jack White and Loretta Lynn - “Portland, Oregon”

Made it on the country duets list, too. This song’s so nice, we’re counting it twice.

2. Everly Brothers - “Bye Bye Love”

Perhaps the definitive rock’n'roll duo. Perfect harmonies, catchy songs and snazzy suits.

1. Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra - “Some Velvet Morning”

One of the strangest songs ever recorded, and made even weirder by the fact that it’s the squeaky clean daughter of Frank Sinatra paired up with Lee Hazlewood and his creepy moustache. Psychedelic, scary and positively unforgettable.
