Comic book superhero Spiderman has survived almost 50 years of battling scores of super-evil super-villains, but it looks like the web-slinger is about to face his most difficult battle yet…On Broadway.

As if Toby McGuire’s puppy-eyed portrayal of the arachnid hero as a lovesick emo nerd perpetually on the verge of tears wasn’t bad enough, it looks like Spiderman is about to star in a Broadway show directed by Julie Taymor, of Lion King Fame.

Since it is Broadway, this isn’t just a play: it’s a musical.

The good news is that the music isn’t being written by the seemingly inescapable Bruce Springsteen.

The bad news is that the music is being written by the equally inescapable U2.

Ah well, at least Beyonce isn’t involved…yet.

Remember that, um, awesome, song U2 came up with for Batman Forever (”Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me“)? Our spidey sense is tingling, and we’re pretty sure this is going to be even worse.

Who in Stan Lee’s name thought this was a good idea?

Is a Spiderman musical a good idea?

Who do you think should write the music?
