Yoko Ono intends to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of John Lennon’s “Acorn Peace”-in which she and the ex-Beatle planted acorns for peace in 1969-by calling 123 world leaders and urging them to reflect on world peace, according to an NME.com report.

According to the report, Ono will send the leaders two acorns each, in a transparent box with the inscription “Acorn Peace by John and Yoko, Spring 2009.” The original stunt, carried out in 1969, resulted in Lennon and Ono receiving letters of thanks from several world leaders in response.

Lennon later referred to the stunt in The Beatles’ song “The Ballad Of John and Yoko,” when he sang: “Caught the early plane back to London/Fifty acorns tied in a sack/The men from the press said, ‘We wish you success, it’s good to have the both of you back.’

Ono plans to put the original letters from world leaders on display at Imageinepeace.com to mark the continued struggle for world peace.

As much as people dislike Yoko, you have to admire her perseverance through the years.

It is heartening to read of this effort and very glad that Yoko’s site. http://www.imaginepeace.com has made copies of some of the letters that were received by The Lennons from world leaders back in 1969/1970.
A John Lennon Memorial Forest (Woodland) has been growing in Israel ever since some Beatle fans first planted trees in his memory early in 1981. When I visited the site, near the very old mystical city of Safed, a ranger in charge of such forests in The Galilee region pointed out an unusual configuration of two trees growing out of a single trunk. He thought it very symbolic of The Lennons’ work together as a couple. And yes, oddly an oak tree (acorn producing) did sprout up there where usually Jerusalem Pine trees thrive.

Ray Whitaker and Daniel Earwicker, what have you done in the name of peace this week?

Oh yea, that’ll be a big fat nothing!

Now shut the hell up and go back to your insignificant lives, friggin losers!

@Donlizard - This week I’ve been holding preliminary talks with North Korea about the possibility of a missile treaty that would end their nuclear program in exchange for significant cuts in western nuclear stockpiles.

I think what really impressed them was when I turned up to the meeting with a bag full of acorns. It really made them think deeply about peace. Also I wrote this poem:

put a whole grapefruit in your mouth
    you are a fruit bowl
    killing people is bad
