Break-Up: Aerosmith Worried About Tyler’s Sobriety

Published November 19th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: After 40 years, Aerosmith’s train may have finally stopped rolling. Will fans accept a new singer?

It has been a dramatic few weeks for Aerosmith, to say the least.

After a seemingly jinxed tour plagued by injury, both common (twisted knee) and bizarre (singer dances right off the front of the stage), the band recently made headlines as guitarist Joe Perry announced that singer Steven Tyler had left the band. Set to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the band is now faced with the challenge of finding a new singer.

Of course, break-ups are never quite that simple.

Tyler then shocked everyone as he  Continue reading »

Tyler Rejoins Aerosmith, For Now. Who Should Replace Him?

Although guitarist Joe Perry recently told the world that singer Steven Tyler had quit Aerosmith after 40 years, Tyler seems to disagree.

We’re not sure whether to be happy the band didn’t split up, or sad because they probably should’ve retired sooner.

Regardless of the group’s current state, it’s obvious that relations are strained within the band; Perry claims he and Tyler haven’t written a song together in a decade because Tyler prefers to hire hacks to write cheesy American Idol-worthy hits and power ballads.

So, maybe the band should have some new singers on tap replace Tyler if he eventually quits or falls off of another stage or something.

To be honest, we’re almost bummed that Tyler is sticking around, because we were really, really hoping his departure would inspire CBS to roll out Rock Star: Aerosmith as a follow-up to Rock Star: INXS and Rock Star: Supernova. We’re sure host Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers) is ready to go!

However, just in case there’s no Rock Star: Aerosmith in the works, we’ve put together some suggestions for singers who could replace Steven (and videos of several of them actually performing with Aerosmith!).

Take a look, then feel free to add more suggestions to our list! Continue reading »

Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, as far as I can tell,” guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper following weeks of speculation.

The members of the 40-year-old Boston rock band have indicated that they are considering hiring a replacement for Tyler.

Considering some rather cruel comments made about Tyler by Perry recently, news that the band has officially called it quits may not come as a shock.

Recently, the band has been plagued by Continue reading »

Too Old to Rock? Morrissey Collapses, Clapton Cancels

British musicians Eric Clapton and Morrissey may not seem to have much in common, other than the Queen, but the two stars both turned up on the too-old-to-rock list this week after cancelling concerts.

While neither cancellation is attributable to causes as over-the-top as 61-year-old Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler’s recent head/neck injuries caused by dancing off the edge of a stage during a concert, both performers have Continue reading »

Adam Lambert “Time for Miracles”: Hollywood’s New Aerosmith?

Published October 19th, 2009 by Karen

In the ’90s, Hollywood’s go-to group for over-the-top melodramatic power-ballads was Aerosmith (think, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Armageddon).

With his first post-American Idol foray back into the spotlight, runner-up Adam Lambert seems to be taking aim for Aerosmith’s throne—and he just might get it.

Joe Perry is plenty pissed that Aerosmith has been temporarily put out of business by Steven Tyler’s tour injury, according to an Associated Press report.

Aerosmith had to cancel their summer tour when Tyler fell off the stage at an August stop and sustained injuries to his shoulder and head.

“The tour was building up to be a great tour, and I was pretty (upset), you know,” Perry said in an interview on Wednesday. Perry said he hadn’t spoken to Tyler in weeks and didn’t know Continue reading »

With American Idol on break until the new season gets under way, how in the world are people supposed to know who America’s most talented undiscovered stars are?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to make your own decisions—TV has all the answers!

Wednesday night America’s Got Talent crowned a new million dollar winner.

Unfortunately, now that we’ve seen the winning performance (below), we think this might be the lamest show ever—Special guest star Susan “Makeover” Boyle’s snooze-tacular version of “Wild Horses” didn’t help matters. We think Paul McCartney put her up to this…

Aerosmith has cancelled the remainder of its summer tour, according to an Associated Press report.

In a statement issued last Thursday, the band’s publicist MSO said “it is with great regret” that the band is canceling the rest of its tour because of injuries that frontman Steven Tyler suffered when he fell off the stage during an August 5 performance in South Dakota.

The statement said doctors have advised Tyler, who broke his left shoulder and took 20 stitches to the head, to take the time to properly recuperate from his injuries.

“Words can’t express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour,” guitarist Joe Perry said in the statement. He thanked the fans for their loyalty and said he hoped the band would be up and running again in the near future. The statement said ticket refunds for the remaining tour dates will be available at the place of purchase.

In an earlier statement, Tyler had thanked all of the people that rushed to his side after the fall and “”for getting me outta there before I bled to death.”

Aerosmith has postponed at least one weekend concert in the wake of Steven Tyler’s fall from the stage at a South Dakota show, in which the band’s frontman sustained head, neck and shoulder injuries, according to an Associated Press report.

Tyler, 61, fell several feet while sashaying around the stage as the sound crew replaced a fuse that had blown during the song “Love in an Elevator,” according to a concert venue spokesperson.

A concertgoer told the AP that Tyler’s head was bleeding and he was holding his shoulder after the fall, but it remained unclear Thursday how seriously he was hurt. The frontman was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital for treatment.

The aging band’s Friday concert in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was postponed. On June 28, Tyler hurt his leg at a concert in Uncasville, Connecticut. and the band postponed seven shows in July. Tyler also battled pneumonia before the tour began in June, while guitarist Joe Perry fought a knee infection.
