When Kanye West ran on stage at the VMAs, took the microphone from a stunned Taylor Swift and proceeded to declare that the teen country star should’ve lost to Beyonce, everyone was talking about it.

Everyone except Beyonce, that is.

Beyonce Knowles said she intends to perform in Malaysia next month two years after she cancelled a concert there because of threatened spectator protest over her sexy clothes and demeanor, according to Associated Press report.

The R&B diva’s upcoming performance is already drawing criticism from conservative elements in a country in which women are required to be covered from shoulders to knees with no cleavage showing.

Knowles said on her Web site that she will take the stage at a stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s biggest city, on October 25. “Beyonce for the first time ever has decided to make Malaysia part of her ‘I am.’ World Tour,” her Web site said.

Knowles canceled a planned concert two years ago following protest threats by Malaysia’s opposition Islamic party. At the time her talent agency said the show was called off due to a scheduling conflict, and the signer performed in Indonesia instead.

Boycott Kanye? West’s VMA Rant Ruins Teen Taylor Swift’s Win

Published September 14th, 2009 by Karen

Kanye West has managed to make an idiot out of himself on TV once again-this time at the VMA Awards (video below).

When Taylor Swift won Best Female Video for ‘You Belong With Me,’ Kanye jumped onstage, grabbed the mike from the country singer’s hands and opened his mouth: “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m a let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.” Swift had beat Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ for the award.

A flabbergasted Swift staggered and didn’t get to finish her acceptance speech. The crowd booed West, who shortly after was asked to leave the show and left the building.

Of course, some skeptics are already starting to wonder if this whole thing is just a publicity stunt organized by MTV, Swift and West in order to boost ratings for everyone. After all, the station is no stranger to controversy (Madonna kissing Britney, Seth Rogen and James Franco “smoking pot” at the MTV Movie Awards, etc).

Swift got a chance to recapture her time in the spotlight. Near the end of the evening, when Beyonce won video of the year for “Single Ladies,” the pop star promptly invited Swift out on stage to properly “have her moment.”

But it was too little, too late. Kanye West had again succeeded in making the event all about him.

Jay-Z’s 9/11 Concert, Blueprint 3 Leaks (Listen)

Jay-Z’s September 11 album The Blueprint 3 leaked online last week, a week ahead of its September 8 official release date, according to a report on Rollingstone.com.

The hip hop artist was made aware of the leak at a press conference for his 9/11 Madison Square Garden benefit concert which will be broadcast live on Fuse TV starting at 9 p.m. “I may be the most bootlegged artist in history,” Jay-Z responded at the Answer the Call conference. “It’s a preview. I’m excited for people to hear the album. I’m very proud of the work I’ve done, so enjoy it.”

Prior to this, a handful of tracks were dropped from the album, including the initial singles “D.O.A.” and “Run This Town,” which were both produced by Timbaland.

According to Rolling Stone, one reason why Jay may be taking the news so well is that with fans able to hear the album before its due date, he’s been getting some early positive reviews. “My pager is actually ringing right now, so people are probably calling me and telling me they pretty much like it,” Jay-Z said.

Mr. Beyonce Knowles is finally trying to put attention back on his music rather than his love life, failed retirement bid, or shady real estate deals-but does it live up to the hype?

We haven’t had time to digest all of the Blueprint 3, but we’re hoping “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” will inspire lame-o lip-synchers (hi, Kanye) to give T-Pain the boot kick the Auto-Tune habit…but we’re not holding our breath.

Oddly, while Jay-Z takes a shot at Auto-Tunes users, he teams up with Kanye on “Run This Town” and with West’s underling Drake nonetheless.

Elsewhere on the album, a duet with singer/pianist Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind,” takes a titular cue from, of all people, Billy Joel (”New York State of Mind”).

Listen to the entire album before its 9/11 release and tell us what you think.

Now, we don’t always condone album leaks, but it this isn’t a bootleg, it’s an official leak from Jay-Z to MTV. Enjoy.

Jay-Z, Lady Gaga Add 2009 VMA Performances

Published August 13th, 2009 by Wendy

ABOVE: A quick rundown of the top 2009 VMA nominees, from Lady Gaga and Beyonce, to Asher Roth and Kings of Leon.

Jay-Z and Lady Gaga have both been added as performers for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, scheduled to take place at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, September 13th, according to a RollingStone.com report.

Lady Gaga is tied with Beyonce, Mrs. Jay-Z, for the most nominations, with both singers snagging nine nods apiece. “I’m simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs. In fact, I’m so happy, I could die,” Gaga said in a statement.

Jay-Z’s performance will take place two days after the release of his latest album, The Blueprint 3. It will be followed by a promotional appearance on The Jay Leno Show.

Gaga and Jay-Z will join previously announced performers Green Day, Taylor Swift, Muse and Pink at the VMAs. Those presenting, but not performing include Nelly Furtado, Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and iCarly’s Miranda Cosgrove, as well as Katy Perry and Ne-Yo.

New Kelly Clarkson Song Admittedly “Ripped Off” from a Beyonce Hit

Published July 29th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Compare the new Kelly Clarkson song, “Already Gone” (above) with Beyonce’s similar song  “Halo” (below).

News is out: Kelly Clarkson’s new single, “Already Gone,” is basically a cheap knock-off of Beyonce’s hit, “Halo.”

In her defense, Clarkson didn’t acutally write this song. That’s cool, she’s popstar not a singer-songwriter, we get it.

Still, if you’re going to rip-off a popular song, why not rip-off something by someone a little cooler than “Sasha Fierce“?

When Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus starts stealing riffs from AC/DC, let us know.

In an interview with Canada’s CBC radio, Clarkson reportedly blamed songwriter Ryan Tedder of OneRebublic fame for the song knock-off.

Over the weekend, Clarkson told radio listeners, “No one ’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, Continue reading »

The 2009 Essence Festival kicks off Friday night in New Orleans, and singer Lionel Richie says the celebration of black music and culture will be a comfort to a community still reeling from Michael Jackson’s death, according to an Associated Press report.

According to the AP, Richie, who had been friends with Jackson for many years, says going to New Orleans for Essence is a homecoming of sorts that will soothe him and the other performers and give them a chance to regroup.

The festival, held at the Louisiana Superdome and Morial Convention Center beginning tonight will include a tribute to Jackson, as well as performances by Richie, Beyonce, John Legend, Ne-Yo, Anita Baker and others.

The tribute is still in the planning stages, according to organizers, but it will be a focal point of the three-day event.
