Bonnaroo 2009 Tickets So Expensive, Layaway is Available.

Flickr photo by johnnyaliveLayaway for concert tickets? We can’t decide whether this is a nice way to help people afford to partake of a fun music event, or bad set-up that is just encouraging people to keep spending themselves deeper into debt, $50 at a time. Maybe you can help us decide.

Before you go stand in line (or hop online) to buy Bonnaroo 2009 tickets when they go on sale Saturday February 7, you might want to take a minute to consider how you’re going to pay for those pricey bits of paper.

Setting up a four-day music festival is expensive, and the fans get stuck with the bill. We’re sure it’ll cost plenty to pay all of the musicians involved, including Bruce Springsteen, Phish, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, Elvis Costello, Animal Collective, Beastie Boys, and about a zillion other performers.

So, how much do tickets to Bonnaroo 2009 cost?

Well, a V.I.P. package goes for a whopping $1,349. Cheap by comparison, general admission tickets fall in the $250 range. However, in a move that makes Ticketmaster’s fees seem tame, there is a service fee of $23.50 per ticket.

In light of the country’s economic downturn, this year Bonnaroo organizers are offering fans a new option when it comes to paying for the expensive tickets: Layaway. Continue reading »

Concert News: Springsteen, Phish Headline Bonnaroo 2009

Published February 3rd, 2009 by Karen

Bruce Springsteen seems pretty unstoppable these days, and the just-confirmed news that the Boss is taking his show from the the Super Bowl to Bonnaroo is music to fans’ ears.

Also confirmed, is the appearance of a recently-, perhaps only temporarily-, reunited Phish. (Insert your own patchoulie/hippie/Phish sucks joke here.)

However, the strangest factor in this music festival trifecta is probably the inclusion of industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails as the third big band on the bill.

Fake hippies and mall goths camping together at a music festival in a field somewhere in Tennessee?

Bonnaroo 2008 Robert Plant VS Lez Zeppelin?

Published June 2nd, 2008 by Karen

The line-up for this year’s Bonnaroo Festival has just been announced.

For the uninitiated, Bonaroo is a four-day music and arts festival held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. Similar to Woodstock, Coachella and the late lamented Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo attracts a wide array of very high-profile acts, as well as cool up-and-coming artists playing everything from folk music, jam-band fare and indie-rock to blues, heavy metal and rap.

This year’s line-up is set to include big names such as Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West and B.B. King, as well as hipster acts Vampire Weekend, MGMT and Cat Power.

Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant will be performing with Alison Kraus on Sunday.
On Thursday, the all-female Led Zeppelin tribute act, Lez Zeppelin will perform. Wonder if they’re nervous? Will Plant make a guest appearance? Could be interesting…

The concert and events run from June 12-15, the pricey tickets cost from $209.50 to $244.50 (plus service charges). Camping is optional and some additional fees apply.

By the time you spend money on food and travel, this whole thing is really expensive, so I’m not really sure who attends this event. It seems too expensive for kids. College students, maybe? Well, college students with their parents’ credit cards, haha.

This concert is massive, so for the full line-up visit the Bonnaroo website, here. The site also features a clock counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the event begins, y’know, in case you’re crazy obsessive like that.
