Break-Up: Aerosmith Worried About Tyler’s Sobriety

Published November 19th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: After 40 years, Aerosmith’s train may have finally stopped rolling. Will fans accept a new singer?

It has been a dramatic few weeks for Aerosmith, to say the least.

After a seemingly jinxed tour plagued by injury, both common (twisted knee) and bizarre (singer dances right off the front of the stage), the band recently made headlines as guitarist Joe Perry announced that singer Steven Tyler had left the band. Set to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the band is now faced with the challenge of finding a new singer.

Of course, break-ups are never quite that simple.

Tyler then shocked everyone as he  Continue reading »

Tyler Rejoins Aerosmith, For Now. Who Should Replace Him?

Although guitarist Joe Perry recently told the world that singer Steven Tyler had quit Aerosmith after 40 years, Tyler seems to disagree.

We’re not sure whether to be happy the band didn’t split up, or sad because they probably should’ve retired sooner.

Regardless of the group’s current state, it’s obvious that relations are strained within the band; Perry claims he and Tyler haven’t written a song together in a decade because Tyler prefers to hire hacks to write cheesy American Idol-worthy hits and power ballads.

So, maybe the band should have some new singers on tap replace Tyler if he eventually quits or falls off of another stage or something.

To be honest, we’re almost bummed that Tyler is sticking around, because we were really, really hoping his departure would inspire CBS to roll out Rock Star: Aerosmith as a follow-up to Rock Star: INXS and Rock Star: Supernova. We’re sure host Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers) is ready to go!

However, just in case there’s no Rock Star: Aerosmith in the works, we’ve put together some suggestions for singers who could replace Steven (and videos of several of them actually performing with Aerosmith!).

Take a look, then feel free to add more suggestions to our list! Continue reading »

Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, as far as I can tell,” guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper following weeks of speculation.

The members of the 40-year-old Boston rock band have indicated that they are considering hiring a replacement for Tyler.

Considering some rather cruel comments made about Tyler by Perry recently, news that the band has officially called it quits may not come as a shock.

Recently, the band has been plagued by Continue reading »

Trent Reznor Wedding Photo Leaked by Bandmate on Twitter

Newly unemployed/retired Nine Inch Nails leader/Twitter instigator Trent Reznor tied the knot over the weekend.

Spinner reports that Reznor and bride Mariqueen Maandig got married on Saturday, October 17.

Although Reznor committed Twitter suicide over the summer after declaring that “idiots rule” the online social network, his bandmates made no such retreat, as evidenced by NIN’s Danny Lohner’s choice to tweet a photo of Reznor and his bride dancing at the reception.

What song do you think they’re dancing to in the photo?

We kinda hope it’s Continue reading »

Pela, an indie rock band from Brooklyn who were on the verge of releasing a new album, seemed poised to do big things but as of Friday they’ve called it quits. You can read the official post from their blog http://www.pelamusic.com/.

Pela had signed on to play a CMJ show in NY but we’re assuming that won’t be happening now. This is sad news as these guys are a very enjoyable band who didn’t hold anything back when they performed live. They will be missed.

The band recently played an acoustic set of some unreleased songs at NPR’s KEXP studio. Listen and Download the MP3s here: Pela: Brand-New Songs, Unplugged

Joe Perry is plenty pissed that Aerosmith has been temporarily put out of business by Steven Tyler’s tour injury, according to an Associated Press report.

Aerosmith had to cancel their summer tour when Tyler fell off the stage at an August stop and sustained injuries to his shoulder and head.

“The tour was building up to be a great tour, and I was pretty (upset), you know,” Perry said in an interview on Wednesday. Perry said he hadn’t spoken to Tyler in weeks and didn’t know Continue reading »

Rescheduled: NIN’s Cancelled Farewell Tour Dates. The End?

UPDATE: Rescheduled Tour Dates Below.

Industrial noisemaker/internet trash talker Trent Reznor and his band Nine Inch Nails have been taking a final lap around the nation on the Wave Goodbye farewell tour, but it looks like the tour just got a little shorter.

According to a post on the band’s official website, the recently athletic-looking singer took ill yesterday, forcing the band to cancel its sold out show at L.A.’s Henry Fonda theater. No word on whether the date will be rescheduled, but refund info is coming soon.

From NIN:

9.3.09: No show tonight at Henry Fonda Theater

We’re very sorry to announce that Trent is ill, and on his doctor’s orders we will not be able to perform tonight’s show at the Henry Fonda Theater. This is the only information we have at this time, we’re posting this early announcement as a convenience for those of you who had plans to attend. Reimbursement details will be posted as soon as we figure them out; likely within the next 24 hours. We wish this wasn’t necessary and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding.

The band’s final L.A. concerts-allegedly the last ever-are apparently due to proceed as scheduled. Fittingly, a band called Health is also on the bill.

Do you think this is really the end of NIN? Or will there be a reunion tour in a couple of years?

Oasis Breaks Up…Again. Definitely, Maybe.

A fight between Liam and Noel Gallagher, the ever-feuding brothers at the core of Oasis, caused the band to cancel its high-profile gig at Paris’s Rock-en-Seine Festival over the weekend. Shortly thereafter, news spread that guitarist Noel had officially parted ways with the band.

In an official statement posted on the band’s website, Noel wrote:

“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer…Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

For his part, Liam twittered an apology to fans for canceling the band’s scheduled V Festival performance on Sunday.

While an official break-up of the band has not been confirmed, it is difficult to imagine this volatile band replacing one of its two central members. (C’mon, I dare you to name the bassist!–No Wiki allowed.)

Because the band has experienced in-fighting-releated hiatuses several times throughout its career, it is difficult to have a very strong reaction to news of the band’s purported split.

As in the past, odds are the Gallagher boys will patch things up in a few months and hit the stage once more-even if it’s only long enough to pad their bank accounts.

Are you bummed that Noel quit Oasis?
Do you think the band should continue with a new guitarist?
Has Oasis done anything worthwhile since What’s the Story Morning Glory?

Brooks & Dunn Break Up Letter to Fans, New Album, Last Rodeo Tour

Published August 11th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Country radio DJs debate whether Brooks & Dunn’s career was dead before the break up.

Bad news, country music fans: Brooks & Dunn are takin’ off their dancin’ boots and calling it quits.

The duo was once at the top of the country charts with linedance-inspiring hits like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” but in recent years it seems that they’ve been outshined by newer duos, such as Big & Rich and Sugarland.

Now, country radio DJs and music fans are debating whether the band is calling it quits too soon, or whether the duo’s career has been dead and buried for several years.

Do you think it is time for Brooks & Dunn to break up?
Is it just us, or are the mustaches kinda creepy?

Read Brooks & Dunn’s letter to fans (below).
It’s actually pretty heartless and unemotional, for a breakup letter. Continue reading »
