Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to be the Boss.

At a concert in Auburn Hills, Michigan on Friday the 13th, Bruce Springsteen risked turning the entire crowd against him as he repeatedly uttered the most offensive four-letter word imaginable: Continue reading »

Oh, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, why do you do this to us?

In honor of the R’n’R Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary, a series of “all-star” concerts were held in NYC featuring some top acts, and some not-so-top acts, all mixed together into a sometimes nightmarish pop culture stew.

Some things just shouldn’t mix, as the concert’s list of duets proves:

The night produced some strange duets:
U2 & Springsteen (ok)
Mick Jagger & Fergie (ick)
Metallica & the Kinks (why?)
And things just get even weirder after that…

Below: check out videos from some of the best and worst combos and tell us which you think is the best (or worst). Continue reading »

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform an entire album from their back catalog each night of the five-night run at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in October.

The Boss will play “Born to Run” and “Born in the U.S.A.” twice each, and Continue reading »

NJ Cops: Who is Bob Dylan?

Published August 17th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: There’s a pretty good chance cops in NJ couldn’t identify the music legends in this video; Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash duet on “Girl from the North Country.”

Police in Long Branch, NJ may patrol the streets that Bruce Springsteen grew up on, but they don’t know anything about music.

Springsteen had lived in a home in the area while writing the classics Born to Run and Thunder Road in the mid-’70s.

In recent months, another iconic musician (and music history buff), Bob Dylan, has made a habit of touring the homes of music stars. Therefore, it’s not surprising that during a tour stop in NJ, Dylan would set off in search of Springsteen’s historic home.

However, reports are surfacing that in July, police were confronted with calls alerting them to the activity of a suspicious man wandering around the neighborhood in the rain. When police arrived and questioned the man, he identified himself as Bob Dylan.

The police didn’t recognize the soggy man as being the iconic singer, so Continue reading »

Recession Sends Big Concerts Under $10: U2, Jonas Brothers

Published August 1st, 2009 by Wendy

ABOVE: U2 with big hair in the ’80s. Just one of the bands being hit by the recession.

If there’s any silver lining to the current recession it’s on the musical front, where last-minute tickets to hear big acts like Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen are available for as little as $1, according to a Reuters report.

According to the report, eBay Inc’s StubHub, the leading Internet ticket re-seller, has confirmed that last-minute concert ticket sales at sharply lower prices are on the rise for acts like Paul McCartney, Springsteen, Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, and U2.

“People often assume a secondary ticket site only offers inflated prices, but it’s very challenging right now,” Sean Pate, a spokesman for San Francisco-based StubHub, was quoted as saying. He said cheap prices were not showing up just for “nosebleed” seats or lawn seats, but rather in all seat locations for top performers.

Many of the big tours are reportedly sold out through vendors like Live Nation, but a certain percentage of tickets find their way onto the secondary market on sites like StubHub or craigslist.org. Given the economy, many of these tickets are being sold by a combination of ticket brokers and regular fans at steep discounts

NASA Erases Moon Landing, Hollywood Restores It to “Better than Original”.

Published July 17th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen perform “Man on the Moon.” Admit it, this  song pops into your head whenever someone mentions the moon landing (even though these space rock songs are probably better).

History is being rewritten by Hollywood, and this time, NASA is picking up the bill.

A new report being circulated by the Associated Press and Yahoo! News indicates that scientists at NASA mistakenly taped over the original film footage of the Apollo space missions and called upon the Hollywood film wizards to restore and improve the low-quality images of the moon landing still in existence.

We’re not conspiracy theorists, but we can’t help wondering if asking Hollywood film experts to fool around with historic film footage is in bad taste. Let’s just hope that Michael Bay isn’t called in to fix up the video sent back from the Mars rovers. (Although, it would be kinda fun to see the mars rovers transform into fighting robots…)

According to AP, the restored footage is better than the historic images originally Continue reading »

Female artists ruled Forbes magazine’s Top-Earning Musicians list of the year, with Madonna, Celine Dion and Beyoncé taking the top three spots, according to a report last week on RollingStone.com

Madonna, who set records with her sold-out Sticky & Sweet tour and had international success with her Hard Candy album, made roughly $110 million to top the list of profits earned from June 2008 to June 2009. (Her expensive divorce from Guy Ritchie was not factored into the equation.)

Dion came in second with $100 million, followed by Beyoncé, who made $87 million thanks to touring, I Am… Sasha Fierce album and promotional deals. Bruce Springsteen was the top earning rocker, coming in fourth with $70 million on the strength of a successful tour, Working on a Dream album and his Super Bowl performance.

Despite the recession, overall numbers were up considerably from last year: This year’s top 10 made a combined $719 million, while 2008’s top 10 only earned $500 million all together.

A star-studded group of musicians congregated Sunday night in New York to play a tribute concert in celebration of legendary folk singer Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday, according to an Associated Press report.

Among the FOPs (friends of Pete) who performed were Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris, Ani DiFranco and John Mellencamp. The benefit concert, which was held at Madison Square Garden, helped to raise awareness for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, an organization Seeger started to preserve and protect the Hudson River.

The concert crowd ranged in age from teens to people in their 80s, and Springsteen brought them all to laughter as he introduced Seeger. “He’s gonna look a lot like your granddad that wears flannel shirts and funny hats. He gonna look like your granddad if your granddad can kick your a–,” the Boss said. “At 90, he remains a stealth dagger through the heart of our country’s illusions about itself.”

Proceeds from the event will go toward caring for the Hudson River.
