Published November 19th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: After 40 years, Aerosmith’s train may have finally stopped rolling. Will fans accept a new singer?

It has been a dramatic few weeks for Aerosmith, to say the least.

After a seemingly jinxed tour plagued by injury, both common (twisted knee) and bizarre (singer dances right off the front of the stage), the band recently made headlines as guitarist Joe Perry announced that singer Steven Tyler had left the band. Set to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the band is now faced with the challenge of finding a new singer.

Of course, break-ups are never quite that simple.

The members of the 40-year-old Boston rock band have indicated that they are considering hiring a replacement for Tyler.

Considering some rather cruel comments made about Tyler by Perry recently, news that the band has officially called it quits may not come as a shock.

Recently, the band has been plagued by Continue reading »

Oh, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, why do you do this to us?

In honor of the R’n’R Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary, a series of “all-star” concerts were held in NYC featuring some top acts, and some not-so-top acts, all mixed together into a sometimes nightmarish pop culture stew.

Some things just shouldn’t mix, as the concert’s list of duets proves:

The night produced some strange duets:
U2 & Springsteen (ok)
Mick Jagger & Fergie (ick)
Metallica & the Kinks (why?)
And things just get even weirder after that…

Below: check out videos from some of the best and worst combos and tell us which you think is the best (or worst). Continue reading »

Steven Tyler Injury Reschedules 2009 Aerosmith Tour Dates

Published July 7th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: A vintage performance of “Toys in the Attic.” Aerosmith plays the classic 1975 album in its entirety during its current summer tour.

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has been forced to postpone some dates on the band’s current tour after suffering an unnamed injury. The band previously announced that guitarist Brad Whitford wouldn’t be joining them on some of the tour after having hit his head exiting his Ferrari, according to Rolling Stone.com.

How’s that for a rock’n'roll injury? Certainly sounds cooler than hitting your head on a Ford Focus or something.

Tyler and Whitford will return to the stage with Aerosmith on Continue reading »

RIP Sky Saxon, Psychedelic Rock Icon of “Can’t Seem to Make You Mine” Fame

Published June 25th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: The Seeds perform the 1966 hit, “Pushin’ Too Hard.”

An influential ’60s garage-rock band, the Seeds found success with singles such as “Can’t Seem to Make You Mine,” “A Thousand Shadows” and, most notably, 1966’s “Pushin’ Too Hard.”

The LA band’s psychedelic rock sound continued to win over fans in the decades to come, with artists such as the Ramones, Garbage, Yo La Tengo, Alex Chilton and Johnny Thunders all releasing versions of Seeds’ hits.

The group went through numerous line-up shifts throughout the late-60s and early-70s before disbanding, but ultimately reunited for a run on the Nuggets-friendly nostalgia circuit alongside groups like the Music Machine, Arthur Lee/Love, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Strawberry Alarm Clock, the latter noted for the single “Incense and Peppermints,” and a featured role in the cult film classic, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

Seeds singer/bassist Sky Saxon, born Richard Marsh, died earlier today, June 25, 2009, in an Austin, Texas hospital. An official cause has not yet been confirmed, although sources such as Austin360 report that Saxon had fallen ill last week, suffering an organ infection. Saxon leaves behind a wife, Sabrina. Check back for additional details as they become available.
