Eminem will be performing for free today in Detroit, the same day his new album, Relapse, is being released, according to an Associated Press report.

The rapper announced plans for today’s show on his MySpace page. Fans lined up for tickets yesterday morning at Record Time in the Detroit suburb of Roseville. Two local television stations–WXYZ-TV and WJBK-TV– reported that fewer than 500 tickets were distributed in about 45 minutes. An Eminem spokesperson confirmed the show will be at MotorCity Casino’s 1,500-seat Sound Board theater and that DJ Jazzy Jeff will be a special guest.

This latest promotion follows a stunt in which Eminem and Jimmy Kimmel flew about 200 laid-off auto workers to Los Angeles for the rapper’s Friday appearance on Kimmel’s TV show. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” also plans to feature Eminem today and Friday.

Eminem is promoting his first studio album in four years.

Eminem debuted the video for “We Made You,” the first single off his forthcoming album “Relapse” on MTV yesterday, according to a Reuters report.

The video is generating some heat because it takes on our celebrity-obsessed culture, and spoofs such media stars as Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan and Ellen DeGeneres, not to mention offering a shot at ex VP candidate Sarah Palin.

“When you walked through the door, it was clear to me/ You’re the one they adore, who they came to see/ You’re a rock star, everybody wants you,” goes the track’s chorus over the Dr. Dre-produced beat.

Among other scenes, the video shows John Mayer crooning to a smitten Jennifer Aniston; Tony Romo doing a dirty dance with Simpson, Spock from “Star Trek” and Kevin Federline next to a dancing Britney Spears.

“Relapse” hits the shelves on May 19.
