Paula Abdul Off American Idol: Will She Be Missed?

Paula Abdul has confirmed that she will not be returning to her seat at the judges’ table on American Idol. News came via Abdul’s Twitter page Tuesday evening.

Is anybody really going to miss her? She was annoying, her comments weren’t very helpful and, let’s face it: She’s not even a good singer!
(Maybe she should judge a dance competition instead?)

“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #Idol,” wrote Abdul in a message to fans. “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all Continue reading »

Kara DioGuardi has passed the audition.

According to E! Online, the fourth American Idol judge, who signed on for duty last season, has inked a deal to return next year. “Her deal is done. There are no ifs, ands or buts,” an E! source was quoted as saying. “Done. She will be back.” The source also said that DioGuardi’s pay day doesn’t come close to what the other AI judges will be getting.

The other judges are still in contract negotiations according to several news sources. Simon Cowell, who already banks $36 million a year, is said to be asking for a much larger paycheck, $45 million , give or take a buck. He’s under contract until 2010, but is looking to boost his rate for multiple years to come.

Paula Abdul is reportedly asking for an increase from $4 million to $12 million, after being rebuffed when she asked for $20million. No word on Randy Jackson’s contract talks.

American Idol Audience Slipping Away

Adam Lambert lovers may have been disappointed by yesterday’s American Idol results, but not as disappointed as Fox Television executives who saw a dip in ratings from last year’s finale, according to a Reuters report.

Preliminary figures from News Corp’s Fox network on Thursday showed an estimated 28.8 million people watched the two-hour finale of the popular TV singing contest on Wednesday, down from 32 million last year. In fact, it was the smallest audience for an Idol finale since 2004, according to the report.

While still America’s most watched TV show, “American Idol” audiences have slipped to an average 26.3 million per twice weekly episode over the five-month broadcast, compared to a 2006 high of about 30.8 million.

The slide came despite the addition of Kara DioGuardi, a fourth judge who must now wait to see if her one-year contract will be renewed.

Adam Lambert Wins Idol Judges w/ Awful DioGuardi Song, “No Boundaries” lyrics

Published May 20th, 2009 by Karen

Above: Adam Lambert sings about mountains, hurricanes, dreams, cliches...

Ok, so if you were lucky enough to have missed last night’s episode of American Idol, you didn’t get to see the debut of American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi’s new song, “No Boundaries.”

DioGuardi co-wrote the anthemic number that is being used as the winner’s theme song for this year’s Idol competition. Last night the top two finalists both sang the song, in some sort of final showdown.

However, even more striking that the predictably predictable performances by Kris Allen and Adam Lambert was the actual song itself. It is a nightmare.

“No Boundaries” is filled with clichés and self-help sentiments so trite, they make Miley Cyrus’s teen self-esteem ballad “The Climb” sound deep by comparison (um, that is not a compliment).

Of course, DioGuardi and the rest of the judges couldn’t say enough nice things about the over-the-top song. Self-congratulatory? Yup.

Here’s a taste of DioGuardi’s handiwork via some of the cheesiest lyrics this side of an Aerosmith power-ballad.

If nothing else, DioGuardi’s nauseating ballad shows us exactly what Idol is looking for: bland cliches. Rhyming “pain” with “hurricane”? Fantastic. It sounds like a greeting card, and should wind up in the garbage just as quickly.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what professional songwriting looks like, enjoy.

“No Boundaries,” co-written by American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi
 (excerpt)
With every step you climb another mountain
With every breath it’s harder to believe
Make it through the pain
Weather the hurricane
To get to that one thing
Just when you think the road is going nowhere
Just when you almost gave up on your dreams
They take you by the hand
And show you that you can

You can go higher
You can go deeper
There are no boundaries Continue reading »
