After being saved by the judges a few weeks ago, American Idol hopeful Matt Giraud met his end on last night’s telecast, according to an Associated Press report.
“I’ll definitely remember being the cat with nine lives up here,” Giraud was quoted as saying after his ouster.
The dismissal of Giraud, a 23-year-old dueling piano player from Kalamazoo, Michigan, did not come without its drama. The judges looked on in amazement, after host Ryan Seacrest put Adam Lambert next to Giraud as the two lowest vote getters. Lambert had been the odds on favorite to win the competition, and at the very end of the show Seacrest confirmed that it was, indeed, Giraud who was going.
The four remaining finalists - Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Lambert - will perform rock ‘n’ roll songs next week, with the two-part finale following two weeks later.
