The personal doctor who tried to revive Michael Jackson the day he died has become the subject of a manslaughter investigation into the pop icon’s death, according to an Associated Press report.

According to the report, a search warrant filed yesterday allowed authorities to seek “property or items constituting evidence of the offense of manslaughter that tend to show that Dr. Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offense.”

The warrant was filed a day after agents seized items from the physician’s Houston clinic and a rented storage unit, including weight loss pills, two computer hard drives, e-mails and a controlled substance registration.

Murray, a 51-year-old cardiologist, was hired to be Jackson’s personal physician just a few weeks before the singer died. He was in Jackson’s rented Los Angeles mansion when the pop star was found unconscious the morning of June 25 and tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

Michael Jackson died June 25, 2009. Although a public memorial has been held in the singer’s honor, Jackson has not yet been laid to rest with a proper funeral, as his body is still being examined by the coroner.

The cost of Michael Jackson’s public memorial service held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on July 7 is estimated to have cost the city around $1.4 million.

Now, that the event is over, people are starting to wonder: Who will be responsible for paying this massive bill?

Most of the cost is due to the large number of police officers needed maintain order during the large event.

Yahoo! reports that L.A. City Council member argues that the Staples Center has taken advantage of the city, and taxpayers, by charging media up to $50,000 to use risers outside the venue. He further asks that AEG Live, an event promotion company that has previously helped fund massive parades and events in the city, should help pick up the bill.

AEG’s president has said that this request is, “out of line.”

Michael Jackson Public Memorial Tickets Lottery, Broadcast

Published July 6th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: A young Michael Jackson sings, “Ben.” Surely, he could’ve never guess that decades later tickets to his funeral would move as quickly as tickets to his concerts.

Plans have been announced for Michael Jackson’s public Memorial to be held Tuesday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, the site of the superstar’s final rehearsals leading up to his anticipated comeback shows in London.

Tickets for the event have been in high demand among Jackson’s famously devoted (obsessed?) fans. Tickets for the free event Continue reading »

Michael Jackson Funeral: Body on Display at Neverland, Glass Coffin Procession—Touching or Ghoulish?

Published July 1st, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: If seeing Michael Jackson dance with the undead wasn’t scary enough, fans may have the chance to see Jackson’s body paraded around in a glass coffin.
Is it a fitting farewell, or a ghoulish goodbye?

Details of Michael Jackson’s funeral and burial are still being confirmed at this time, but CNN reports that Jackson’s body will likely be returned to the embattled Neverland Ranch for a public memorial service, which may in time become a permanent monument to the star, like Graceland is for Elvis.

Tentative plans are being discussed  for a public showing of Jackson’s body at the estate in the coming days, although the details are uncertain, at best.

On a creepier note, CNN and Yahoo! report that Jackson’s family wants his body to be driven through the streets of Los Angeles and taken to the funeral service in a glass-sided horse-drawn carriage, complete with a matching glass coffin.

A public memorial would be acceptable, but isn’t this a little ghoulish?
Do fans really want to see Jackson’s dead body on display?
Should this be a private event for his family, friends?
