REVIEW: Twilight New Moon Soundtrack as Overrated as the Movie?

Published September 23rd, 2009 by Karen

Twilight: New Moon (Soundtrack)

Various Artists

2009

MusicVixen Rating:

Recommended if you like:
Death Cab for Cutie, Gossip Girl, bummed out vampires, stoned looking girls

The success of the pre-release buzz, incessant marketing and unfounded hype surrounding this utterly mediocre collection might be an even bigger accomplishment than the crossbreeding of vampires, werewolves and indie-rockers…or whatever this movie is about.

The release of Twilight: New Moon and its accompanying soundtrack are still a few weeks away, but the tracklisting has finally been released (see it, below).

Today, we’re taking at look at the disc and trying to figure out what the fuss is all about.

At a glance, it seems about as lame as the movie (seriously, have you seen the trailer for this thing? Bad acting, horrible dialogue and cheap special effects. Unless people dig this because it’s cheesy/funny, there’s really no excuse for handing any more money over to Stephenie Meyer and Co.).

BELOW: Twilight: New Moon Soundtrack: Check out some of the new tracks and tell us what you think. Continue reading »

Twilight New Moon Soundtrack Sucks In Radiohead, Muse, Band of Skulls mp3

Published July 29th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: The Twilight New Moon trailer.

It looks like some big changes are going to hit the cast of Twilight: Eclipse, just before the third installment starts filming (Rachelle Lefevre, the actress portraying villainess, Victoria, is reportedly out).

One thing at a time though! The second film in the series, Twilight: New Moon, isn’t even in theatres yet–so it’s really too soon to start speculating about Twilight Eclipse or the Twilight Eclipse soundtrack.

(BTW: Is it just us, or does “Twilight: Eclipse” sound like a flavor of minty-fresh chewing gum, or some gross energy drink? Maybe it should be garlic-flavored, y’know, to keep vampires away…)

At least the Twilight New Moon soundtrack is slowly starting shape up.

Artists currently confirmed to join the soundtrack include Continue reading »

Review: (500) Days of Summer Soundtrack mp3s and videos

Published July 23rd, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: When the trailer kicks off with a Smiths-related pick-up line, you know you’re in for a quirky indie flick. Love it? Hate it?

(500) Days of Summer is shaping up to be this year’s quirky film hit along the lines of Juno and Garden State. Like those films, music plays a big part in the movie-including the fact that star/indie-rock heartbreaker Zooey Deschanel is a real-life musician (her band, She & Him, performs a Smiths song on the soundtrack).

What else is on this hot movie soundtrack? Find out what’s good-and what we never, ever want to hear again.

We’re handing out the soundtrack tunes and videos below, so sit back and enjoy.

What do you think?

Does a good soundtrack make you want to see a movie more?
Would a bad soundtrack make you want to skip a movie?

NASA Erases Moon Landing, Hollywood Restores It to “Better than Original”.

Published July 17th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen perform “Man on the Moon.” Admit it, this  song pops into your head whenever someone mentions the moon landing (even though these space rock songs are probably better).

History is being rewritten by Hollywood, and this time, NASA is picking up the bill.

A new report being circulated by the Associated Press and Yahoo! News indicates that scientists at NASA mistakenly taped over the original film footage of the Apollo space missions and called upon the Hollywood film wizards to restore and improve the low-quality images of the moon landing still in existence.

We’re not conspiracy theorists, but we can’t help wondering if asking Hollywood film experts to fool around with historic film footage is in bad taste. Let’s just hope that Michael Bay isn’t called in to fix up the video sent back from the Mars rovers. (Although, it would be kinda fun to see the mars rovers transform into fighting robots…)

According to AP, the restored footage is better than the historic images originally Continue reading »

Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel Soundtrack With Marilyn Manson

Published October 9th, 2008 by Karen

Tim Burton’s stylish 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas has become something of a cult classic, particularly among goth rock kids and Hot Topic shoppers. The story of the Mayor of Halloweentown discovering the magic of Christmas blends elements of musical theatre and holiday and horror film classics, all with Burton’s typical dark edge.

Some 15 years later, a follow-up to the movie is finally being released…sort of.

Nightmare Revisited is the sequel to the original soundtrack of the popular film. This time around, the movie’s musical numbers are being covered by an array of rock, punk, hard-rock and other artists.

Among the high-profile performers offering their interpretations of the musical’s hits are Marilyn Manson, All American Rejects, Korn and Amy Lee of Evanescence.

While the film was re-released to theatres in a 3-D edition, there are still no plans for a sequel—thanks goodness. The original film is interesting because it has a unique look and story, so some sort of computer-animated Disney-style follow-up would only detract from it.

Nightmare Before Christmas 2 Nightmare Revisited Soundtrack highlights:
“Overture” (DeVotchKa)
“Opening” (Danny Elfman)
“This Is Halloween” (free Marilyn Manson mp3)
“Jack’s Lament” (The All-American Rejects)
“Doctor Finkelstein/In The Forest” (Amiina)
“What’s This?” (Flyleaf)
“Town Meeting Song” (The Polyphonic Spree)
“Jack and Sally Montage” (The Vitamin String Quartet)
“Jack’s Obsession” (Sparklehorse)
“Kidnap the Sandy Claws” (Free Korn mp3
“Making Christmas” (Rise Against)
“Nabbed” (Yoshida Brothers)
“Oogie Boogie’s Song” (Rodrigo y Gabriela)
“Sally’s Song” (Amy Lee)
“Christmas Eve Montage” (RJD2)
“Poor Jack” (free Plain White T’s mp3
“To the Rescue” (Datarock)
“Finale/Reprise” (Shiny Toy Guns)
“Closing” (Danny Elfman)
“End Title” (The Album Leaf)

Miley Cyrus Nude Photos Scandal Heats Up

Published April 28th, 2008 by Karen

ABOVE: Miley Cyrus and best friend, Mandy Jiroux, host a homemade online video show for fans. Are Cyrus’s controversial photos just another act of silly teen behavior, or something parents should worry about?

Oops…Disney did it again.

The company that introduced the world to squeaky clean Mousketeers-turned-skanky pop disasters Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears can add Miley Cyrus to its list of good girls gone bad.

Miley Cyrus, the 15-year-old star of the absurdly popular Hannah Montana franchise, became a star by playing the role of an innocent young school girl leading a secret double live as a music star. But her real life isn’t so G-rated.

While Hannah Montana’s kid-friendly image and music is a hit with kids, Cyrus’s recent string of racy photos (including ones where she reveals her green bra and pulls up her shirt for Continue reading »
