Mel Gibson’s Girlfriend Issues Free MP3, “Say My Name” by Oksana

Can Mel Gibson’s baby mama sing? That’s the question E! Online is asking as the woman who broke up the actor’s longtime marriage is issuing a single off her upcoming album for free.

According to E!, “Say My Name,” the first single from Oksana Grigorieva’s forthcoming debut album, Beautiful Heartache, is now available for free download-and, most likely, full blown Internet ridicule-at her official website.

“It is the first and one of the simplest songs on the album, but also one of the most intimate,” the 39-year-old singer told E!. The album will be released this summer on Icon Records, the label owned by, surprise, surprise, Gibson.  E! reports that “Say My Name” was also written for an upcoming movie that, while unnamed, sounds a lot like the Mel Gibson-starring Edge of Darkness.

“It is naked, intimate, raw emotion,” Grigorieva said of the track. “Little more than piano and voice, as if it is a cry from the soul.”

So, how bad is it? Take a listen below, then tell us what you think!

Unwigged and Unplugged: Spinal Tap Reunion Tour No Joke.

Published March 6th, 2009 by Karen

The funniest fake band ever, Spinal Tap, is doing something that proves its own theory that, “There’s a fine line between clever and stupid.”

Those nearly immortal lines were uttered by Spinal Tap singer/guitarist David St. Hubbins (aka actor/comedian/musician Michael McKean) in the greatest rockumentary/mockumentary ever made: This is Spinal Tap.

While that movie was one of the greatest, and perhaps most (unfortunately) accurate, portraits of rock’n'roll excess and dimwittedness ever made, the band’s decision to reunite in the real world is no laughing matter.

(Complete Spinal Tap Tour Dates after the jump)

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of This Is Spinal Tap, the (semi) fictional trio has announced plans for a reunion tour that finds the members appearing without their costumes and wigs and instead placing the focus on the music.

Um, Spinal Tap is hilarious, but the group hasn’t exactly been pumping out hit records. Which reminds us: the trio is also preparing to release a new Spinal Tap CD, for some reason.

The “Unwigged and Unplugged” tour hits 30 cities and finds actors/musicians McKean, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest performing as themselves rather than their over-the-top Spinal Tap characters. In addition to stripped-down versions of Spinal Tap’s hair-metal hits, the trio will perform songs from A Mighty Wind, their Tap-like movie about folk music.

The good news is that even outside of their Tap personas, these guys will probably pretty entertaining. With ties to Saturday Night Live, SCTV and the Simpsons, their brand of comedy is hard-to-beat.

Of course we’d still rather see these guys in concert with Guest performing as his Spinal Tap character Nigel Tufnel. Tufnel is a rock god. Guest is boring little dude who is married to uber-annoying actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Who would you rather see unleash a wild guitar solo on “Stonehenge” or “Sex Farm”?

Yeah, that’s what we thought.

Fortunately, the band is planning a full-on Spinal Tap tour to coincide with the release of Tap’s new album. No word on whether the new album will be rock’n'roll, or some sort of jazz odyssey.

Free Cadillac Records Soundtrack Downloads and Preview

Published December 5th, 2008 by Karen

Cadillac Records hits movie theaters nationwide today, and while we haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet, we know the Cadillac Records soundtrack download should be great! Or, at least, it could’ve been great…

Set in the 1950s, the movie Cadillac Records tells the story Leonard Chess, founder of the legendary Chess Records label that was home to artists such as Etta James, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry—just to name a few! With this many music legends all in one place, the music is sure to be out of this world.

Cadillac Records stars Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess and features Beyonce Knowles as Etta James, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Cedric the Entertainer as  blues legend Willie Dixon (see complete cast details here).

Unfortunately, the Cadillac Records movie soundtrack doesn’t feature the original versions of the songs by the real artists, it features the versions performed by the movie’s actors.

Ugh.

Beyonce is a fine singer, but we’d really rather hear the real Etta James sing “At Last”! Same goes for Mos Def’s attempt at singing Chuck Berry’s “No Particular Place to Go.”

We’re not really sure what Solange Knowles is doing on the Cadillac Records soundtrack downloads, but we’re pretty sure she’s only there because Beyonce produced the movie. Must be nice to have a celeb sister! Maybe Jessica Simpson will produce a movie for Ashlee, haha, oh wait, Jess’s movie career hasn’t exactly been golden (who actually watched Employee of the Month? Yeah, that’s what we thought…).

Do you like it when actors/musicians portray musicians in films? Or is it better to use recording of the real musicians instead of the actors?

We don’t want to judge this movie too much until we’ve actually seen it, but we have a feeling it would’ve been better if the actors didn’t sing. We’ll let you know what we think after we watch it!

To get you warmed up for the Cadillac Records, here’s a preview of some of the musicians portrayed in the movie—enjoy!

Love or Hate it? Twilight Movie download Twilight soundtrack

Twilight Soundtrack Free Twilight movie download Free Twilight Soundtrack mp3 Music

While Twilight by Stephenie Meyer was a hit in bookstores (selling over 20 million copies), movie industry insiders were still somewhat surprised by the huge box office revenue being generated by the film version of the popular vampire story.

With news of a Twilight sequel based on the second Twilight book, New Moon, already spreading like wildfire, this series seems to have the makings of the next big franchise.

As vampire movies go, Twilight is a respectable entry into the category, although the recent Swedish teen vampire flick Frozen was cooler, funnier, smarter and had a better soundtrack (it featured the Hives! Twilight features Collective Soul—who the hell still listens to Collective Soul?!?!).

Anyway, re-read the books while you wait for the flood of New Moon movie previews and spoilers to hit the internet, and download free Twilight Soundtrack mp3s to set the mood for a dark evening with Edward Cullen and Bella Swan (star Robert Pattinson music is featured on the soundtrack, too!)

Happy haunting.

Best Halloween Movies and Free Halloween Music

Published October 30th, 2008 by Karen

It’s Halloween and that means two things: Free candy and scary movies!
(Well, it also means skanky girls dressed as “sexy” witches, nurses and hookers, but that’s a different story…)

In an attempt to scare ourselves silly, we’ve been watching lots of gross Halloween movies this week, but, so far, we’re not very scared.

Watching the classic fright flick Halloween, we realized that seeing Michael Myers slowly hunting humans with a scary mask and big knife isn’t nearly as scary as seeing Mike Myers act like an Indian love expert in the Love Guru.

So, are any Halloween classics actually scary? We’re taking a look at a few popular scary Halloween movies and deciding if they’re still scary or not—but leave a comment and let us know if you can think of something scarier!

Scary or Not Very? Top Halloween Movies

Saw V
Ok, this isn’t actually out yet, but we have a sneaky feeling that it’s going to be almost identical to all of the other Saw movies. Are these things still scary/gross? Or is it getting kind of lame and predictable by now?

Cloverfield
The only scariest thing about this movie is that I paid $12 to see it. On the plus side, most of the annoying characters died. Hopefully, there won’t be a sequel to this garbage.

Child’s Play
Dolls are creepy, end of story. The movie involves some sort of story about the doll being possessed by the spirit of a killer or something silly like that. But, seriously, we just assume all dolls are evil little monsters, no explanation needed.

Nightmare on Elm St.
Yeah, the whole “Freddy is a supernatural murderer that can kill you in your dreams” thing is pretty spooky, but the worst Freddy-attack is on the character who falls asleep in the bathtub. Because, if Psycho taught us one thing, it’s that you are basically defenseless in the shower/bath. Unless you have a really tough ducky. Plus, dying naked kinda sucks.

Night of the Living Dead
This black and white zombie flick is ultra-scary because it looks like a documentary. They might be slow, but the undead in this movies are as scary as the fast-moving zombies of 28 Days Later…well, almost.

Psycho
“Mother” runs up the stairs with a knife, weird overhead camera angle.
Classic, slow-moving monsters are scary, but fast-moving crazies are terrifying!

The Ring
This might be the scariest movie ever.
Why? Because, much like Nightmare on Elm St., it gives you a sort of helpless feeling. Freddy attacks through your dreams, but the Ring comes at you through your TV and telephone! It’s a terrifying slice of modern horror—plus, the creepy editing and sound effects are unforgettable.

We need your advice!
Leave a comment and tell us what scary movies we should be watching!

Plus, stop by and download some free Halloween music and free Halloween ringtones.
Thank goodness, there isn’t a ringtone for The Ring! There’s a pretty sweet free Ghostbusters ringtone though.

Watch Simpsons Season Premiere 20th Season: Top Simpsons Musical Guests

Published September 26th, 2008 by Karen

Sure, we’re ready to gather ‘round the TV for tonight’s presidential debate between Obama and McCain (McCain just announced he’ll actually show up at the event), but we’re really looking forward to Sunday night’s season premiere of the Simpsons.

Everyone’s favorite cartoon family is celebrating its 20th Season, so we thought we’d take a look back at 20 of the show’s top music guests. We’re mostly looking at bands that actually played music in the show (Johnny Cash guest starred as a coyote, but didn’t sing. Yo La Tengo revamped the themesong but didn’t appear in the show, same for Hank Williams, Jr. who sang the “Canyonero” SUV commercial song without appearing onscreen).

Top 20 Bands on the Simpsons

20. Fake Michael Jackson/Michael Jackson
Apparently MJ did the speaking parts, but someone else did the singing? That seems just weird enough to be true! Whatever. This episode was ultra annoying, right down to the awful bar/MJ duet, “Happy Birthday Lisa.”

19. Weird Al Yankovic
Yawn.
18. Tony Bennett
Classy, as always, but still no Sinatra.

17. Smashing Pumpkins
16. Sonic Youth
15. Peter Frampton
14. Cypress Hill
These four bands appeared as part of a Lollapalooza inspired episode. It’s good for some nice alternative nation nostalgia when you catch the reruns.

13. Phish
Pot jokes? You bet. Hooray for Otto!

12. Tom Petty
11. Elvis Costello
10. Mick Jagger
9. Keith Richards
8. Brian Setzer
7. Lenny Kravitz
All part of a great episode where Home goes to rock’n’roll fantasy camp (and repeated calls Brian Setzer, “Mr. Seltzer.”). Fantastic.

6. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Meh.

5. NSync
Lame, as expected, but they did a good job of making fun of themselves and gave us the opportunity to see Ralph, Milhouse, Bart and Nelson form a hilarious boyband.

4. Aerosmith
Flaming Moes!

3. U2
Another group that seemed to have fun poking fun at its own image.

2. The Ramones
Mr. Burns ordered the execution of the Beatles after being insulted by the Ramones’ birthday song.

1. Spinal Tap
With Harry Shearer in the Simpsons’ cast, it seemed inevitable that the greatest band ever would reunite in Springfield. And the reunion was a smash hit and hilarious as always (although, if we remember correctly, the band died in a fiery bus crash during the story. Bummer.).

D’oh!!!

Did we forget your favorite Simpsons musical guest?

Rockstar DUI: Star Gives Cop Credit Card Instead of License

Published September 12th, 2008 by Karen

Known for the hit song “Hungry Eyes” from the film Dirty Dancing, singer Eric Carmen was stopped by Ohio police on suspicion of DUI. According to a news report, Carmen mistakenly handed the cops his credit card when asked for his license.

Which doesn’t exactly seem like a sober mistake to us. Police stopped Carmen after he hit a fire hydrant, and reports state that he had alcohol in the car.

Prior to his ‘80s smashes “Hungry Eyes” and “All By Myself,” Carmen rose to fame with ‘70s power-pop outfit the Raspberries on the strength of songs such as “Go All the Way.”

Of course, Carmen is innocent until proven otherwise, but his alcohol level was reportedly nearly three times the legal limit and this is the second time he’s been nabbed for DUI. Let’s hope he learns his lesson. Maybe Patrick Swayze should have a talk with him before it’s too late.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist Soundtrack Preview

Published September 4th, 2008 by Karen

With an already impressive resume that includes starring roles in Arrested Development and Juno, Michael Cera is back with another hip indie-rock filled flick. In Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Cera plays Nick, a soft-hearted musician caught up in a crazy night of rock’n’roll and mixtapes as he runs around the city with a strange girl (Kat Dennings/“Norah”) in search of a lost drunk friend and secret concert.

Wackiness and teen romance no doubt ensue, but, more importantly, this film is sure to be a showcase for some very carefully chosen super-hip indie rock. As in Juno, music is a huge part of the film—in the story, Nick is the straight bassist of the otherwise all-gay “queercore” band, The Jerk-Offs.

We’re taking a look at some of the tracks from the movie, based on the book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Additional movie soundtrack music is by Mark Motherbaugh of Devo fame (he’s also done music for everything from Rugrats to Drop Dead Gorgeous and Yo Gabba Gabba!)

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist opens October 3, 2008.

Project Jenny, Project Jan—Negative

The movie (and soundtrack album) will also include some as-yet-unnamed tracks from cool acts likes the Shout Out Louds (wait, is Sweden still cool?) and Vampire Weekend (admit it: these guys were never cool).

Also on the infinite playlist:

Band of Horses
