New Kelly Clarkson Song Admittedly “Ripped Off” from a Beyonce Hit

Published July 29th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Compare the new Kelly Clarkson song, “Already Gone” (above) with Beyonce’s similar song  “Halo” (below).

News is out: Kelly Clarkson’s new single, “Already Gone,” is basically a cheap knock-off of Beyonce’s hit, “Halo.”

In her defense, Clarkson didn’t acutally write this song. That’s cool, she’s popstar not a singer-songwriter, we get it.

Still, if you’re going to rip-off a popular song, why not rip-off something by someone a little cooler than “Sasha Fierce“?

When Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus starts stealing riffs from AC/DC, let us know.

In an interview with Canada’s CBC radio, Clarkson reportedly blamed songwriter Ryan Tedder of OneRebublic fame for the song knock-off.

Over the weekend, Clarkson told radio listeners, “No one ’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, Continue reading »

Billy Joel Has New Flame in Former Soap Star

Published July 23rd, 2009 by Wendy

Billy Joel is apparently in a romantic state of mind again, striking up a new relationship with former ‘Young and the Restless’ star Alex Donnelley whom he met backstage at his July 11 concert in Washington, DC, according to the Web site Popeater.com.

“The two hit it off immediately,” an insider told the entertainment site, which is reporting that the actress, 49, has been spending a lot of time at Joel’s home in New York’s Sag Harbor.

Joel, 60, and his much younger third wife, 27-year-old Katie Lee, announced last month they were splitting after five years. The rumor mill speculated that the breakup might be due to Lee’s flirtations with fashion designer Yigal Azrouel, 36, but Joel’s rep denied this, saying it was strictly related to the large age difference between the two.

Joel reportedly had a prenup in place when he married Lee in October 2004. His nine-year marriage to Christie Brinkley, the mother of their daughter Alexa, ended in 1994. His first marriage, to Elizabeth Weber, also lasted nine years.

Rock Star Shoots Mom. She Shoots Back. New Dead Weather Video, Tour Dates, Free Concert

Published July 15th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Sort of like a more rockin’ Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Dead Weather “Treat Me Like Your Mother” video. The band plays a free show in NYC, Thursday 7/16 at noon at Jack White’s new Record Store (details). Get there early or you probably won’t get in.

Apparently, Jack White would shoot his mother.

Ok, that’s a stretch, but in his new band’s new video, “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” Dead Weather singer Alison Mosshart chides White for treating her like his mother, setting the stage for a non-stop, close-range machinegun battle which fills out the rest of the clip’s runtime, until the scruffy pair runs out of lyrics, bullets and, possibly, blood. Fans of True Romance-style shoot-’em-ups are Continue reading »

U2 Opens World Tour in Barcelona

Published July 1st, 2009 by Wendy

ABOVE: U2 dedicated a performance of “Angel of Harlem” to Michael Jackson…we’re not entirely sure why.

More than 90,000 fans piled into Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium last night for the kick off of U2’s 360° Tour, the Irish rockers’ first trek in three years, according to a report on RollingStone.com.

According to the Web site, the concert took place on a massive stage, lovingly called the “Claw” by crew members, and boasted a giant 360 video screen, flowing silk screens and a light show that would have made Pink Floyd jealous.

“We have here a huge production, there’s no denying that. It’s likely the largest rock & roll touring stage production that’s ever been put together,” design architect Mark Fisher was quoted as saying.

U2, one of the world’s most successful acts, opened the show with “Breathe” from their acclaimed new album “No Line on the Horizon,” and went on to play a mix of new and classic songs, including “Angel of Harlem,” which they dedicated to Michael Jackson.

The quartet’s 360° Tour will visit 31 cities across Europe and North America and entertain an estimated three million people.

Ed McMahon Dead at 86. Octogenarian Gangsta Rap Star, TV Co-Host.

Published June 23rd, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: In the midst of his personal financial crisis and home foreclosure, Ed McMahon became an octogenarian gansta rap sensation.

Famous for his nightly announcement, “Heeere’s Johnny,” longtime Tonight Show with Johnny Carson sidekick Ed McMahon had one of the most famous voices in television. It came as some surprise when the straight-laced spokesman reinvented himself as a gangsta rap star later in life, even if it was only for an ad campaign.

In recent months, the star made headlines as his multi-million dollar home became involved in foreclosure proceedings. McMahon had fallen Continue reading »

Tori Amos free “Maybe California” mp3 for Mother’s Day.

Published May 8th, 2009 by Karen

In case you forgot, Mother’s Day 2009 is May 10. Still don’t have a present? We’ve got you covered! Well, if your mom digs Tori Amos, that is…

In honor of Mother’s Day, Amos is giving away a free mp3 and video of her song “Maybe California,” from her upcoming album, Abnormally Attracted to Sin.

To go along with this gift, Tori has also posted a special, creepy video message delivered with her usual spaced-out voice and glazed over Stepford gaze. In the clip, Amos explains that she wanted to give a gift, “from one mother to another. I know these have been difficult times and sometimes I think you just need somebody to put their hand out, this song did that for me.”

Whatever that means. Maybe this song cures swine flu or something? Anyway, go grab Tori’s free “Maybe California” mp3 and tell us what you think of it.

We think the song is actually kind of a downer and might bum your mom out.

Some artists get mellower with age, but we think Tori has been getting odder lately– which is saying something.

The video at the top of the page is Tori in 2007 singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” while dressed as Uncle Sam(?). After the jump, see Tori Continue reading »

Heath Ledger’s Music Video from Beyond the Grave

Ok, so apparently we’re the only people in the whole wide world wide web who think that the Dark Knight sucks and that the whole thing was a big ol’ snoozefest (we’ve got the hate mail to prove it).

Regardless, everyone’s favorite psycho Aussie clown, Heath Ledger, is back from beyond the grave-to direct a music video. Scary, right?

Ok, so actually he helmed this vid before he died, but the boys of formerly indie-rock, but now just plain rock, outfit Modest Mouse are just now getting around to releasing it.

The good news is that Ledger’s “King Rat” video is probably better than the Dark Knight. (Although that’s not saying much.)

The bad news is that Johnny Marr isn’t in Modest Mouse anymore. (But, the band hasn’t made a really solid album since the Lonesome Crowded West, anyway, so maybe it doesn’t really matter.) Continue reading »
