Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, Staind, bald guys with silly beards

Following up on the success of his post-American Idol debut album, Chris Daughtry and his eponymous band are back for a second shot at the spotlight–and they’re bringing that annoying guy from Nickelback with them.

For whatever it’s worth, Chris Daughtry is actually a better singer than Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

Considering the fact that Daughtry’s vocals could often be mistaken for Nickelback karaoke, pairing him with Kroeger is redundant, but it also means that the song they co-wrote, “No Surprise,” (listen below) is an easy fit with Continue reading »

2009 Stimulate This Tour Dates: Are these Five Bands Worth Seeing? Find Out.

Published July 8th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Five rock bands unite for a “maximum value” summer tour to help fans save money with their own brand of “economic stimulus.” But is it worth it?

As we previously announced, a handful of rock bands (Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle, Halestorm, Lo-Pro)  are teaming up to offer fans a big summer tour, for a reasonable price (top seats go for around $40). The tour’s official website describes the event as, “a five-band bill designed to offer fans maximum value at a minimal price!”

We’re tempted to make a joke about how about how the music is bad, but at least there’s a lot of it, but instead of jumping to conclusions, we’re going to take a few minutes to listen to some of these bands on the bill, particularly the ones we’ve never actually heard of (Lo-Pro, we’re looking at you).

MORE: Check out the scoop on the bands below with music and videos from the bands, along with complete Stimulate This tour dates. Continue reading »

New Bryan Adams Stamp Issued in Canada. Pink Floyd Excited, Sex Pistols Not.

ABOVE: Bryan Adams performs a classic track from the Wall with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.
BELOW: Adams performs one of his classic hits.

The Canadian post office (Canada Post) is issuing a series of stamps honoring famous Canadian musicians and composers. While Canadian pop monstrosities like Nickelback, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette and Rush won’t be showing up in your mailbox any time soon, ’80s superstar Bryan Adams might.

Known for hits such as “Summer of ‘69,” “Run to You,” and sappy prom/wedding favorite “Everything I Do, I Do it for You,” Adams is among the first Canadian music stars to receive this, um, honor.

Oddly enough, this probably is quite an honor for the singer, since Adams seems to be something of a postage enthusiast: In 2004 the Canada Post issued a stamp featuring one of his photographs of Queen Elizabeth II. The Sex Pistols would not be impressed.

Hey, remember when Pearl Jam released that album, Ten?

Congratulations, you’re officially old.

That’s right, Pearl Jam is giving fans a great big kick in the junk this week by reminding everyone how old they are. The group is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its breakthrough album, Ten.

(They’re calling it the 20th anniversary, but it’s really only 18. They’re musicians, so we don’t expect them to be very good at math.)

That’s right, Ten was released in 1991, effectively joining forces with Nirvana and their grungy brethren to destroy heavy metal (hey, Metallica, what’s up?), reinvent modern rock music and spawn an endless stream of imitators, some tolerable (Stone Temple Pilots, we guess) and some beyond horrible (Nickelback, anyone?).

So how is the band celebrating this momentous occasion?

By cashing-in and selling four different reissues of the album, of course. (Um, greedy much?)

Set to sell for between $14-$125, here’s what you get with each of the new sets (on-sale 3/24): Continue reading »
