Kiss, LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are considered frontrunners for induction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, according to an Associated Press report.
According to the AP, they are part of a diverse group of 12 acts in contention for the 2010 class. Other first-time nominees include Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and songwriter Laura Nyro. There are also names on the ballot that have been there before, including Donna Summer, Darlene Love, ABBA, the Chantels, and the Stooges.
The nominees are selected by a committee composed of music historians and are then voted on by roughly a thousand experts, including academics, journalists, producers, and others with music industry experience.
Only five acts make it in to the Hall each year. The 25th annual induction ceremony is slated for March 15 in New York City. The inductees will be announced in December.
"My favorite Patrick Swayze movie is Dirty Dancing. I could watch the dance scene at the end over and over again. I had such a crush on him when I was..."
ABOVE:At the height of his fame, Swayze attempted to add pop singer to his resume with the ballad, “She’s Like the Wind.”
A Texas-born ballet dancer known for his star turns in movies such as Dirty Dancing, Road House and Ghost, Patrick Swayze made a name for himself as an actor, dancer, singer and People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive (1991).
Among Swayze’s better-known films are the Outsiders, Point Break (w/Keanu Reeves and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), and Red Dawn, a high school war movie currently being remade.
The star of stage and screen turned to television in 2009, emerging with the gritty police series, The Beast. However, around this time it was also revealed that Swayze was battling pancreatic cancer. His illness and inability to work long hour filming and promoting the TV series likely contributed to it being cancelled.
Eight months after announcing his diagnosis, the star lost his battle on September 14, 2009. Swayze was 57.
Which Swayze film/scene or song is your favorite? Tell us in the comments section. RIP.
Just when you thought the super-hyped Them Crooked Vultures were the only supergroup in town, along comes Spirits in the Sky.
Let’s compare the line-ups:
Them Crooked Vultures makes perfect sense as a power trio consisting of drummer Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana), guitarist Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss) and bassist John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).
Spirits in the Sky is a nine-piece band starring the dueling guitar jammery of Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan) and Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers). It also features members of ’60s bands Electric Prunes and Strawberry Alarm Clock (of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls film fame).

"music vixen be quiet cuz noone wants to listen to your nonsense, snow was an incredibly written song and red hot chili peppers have wrote some of the..."
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are planning on spicing things up a bit this fall by going into the studio to record some new songs, according to a report on RollingStone.com
“We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this,” bassist Flea explained. “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor,” he said.
There’s no word yet on when a new Peppers album will come out, according to RollingStone. When it’s issued, it will be the first release for the group since 2006’s double-platinum Stadium Arcadium. According to the report, chances are Rick Rubin will reprise his role as producer on any new album.
Not that the members of the Peppers haven’t been keeping busy. Since their last outing, Chad Smith joined the all-star group Chickenfoot, frontman Anthony Kiedis developed a series for HBO and Flea enrolled at USC to study music theory.
This might be the most annoying promo video ever made. It’s for a band called Chickenfoot.
Have you heard of Chickenfoot?
Chickenfoot is being billed as a new “supergroup” featuring ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar, ex-VH bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitarist-who-sued-Coldplay-for-plagiarism, Joe Satriani.
A guy who couldn’t upstage David Lee Roth and a guy so boring Coldplay might’ve swiped his song? Um, thanks…
As expected, Chickenfoot basically sounds like a middle-aged Van Halen cover band. The group’s self-titled debut album hits stores in June, if you’re curious, you can check out three free Chickenfoot mp3s.

News of Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton’s death is still making waves among rock fans around the world, but music fans are in for more bad news today as belated reports are surfacing regarding the death of a Motown legend.
Robert Ward passed away December 25 at age 70, according to a report posted earlier today by Billboard. While the name may not immediately ring a bell, the music this guitarist helped create will be remembered for years to come.
A founding member of the Ohio Players, Ward was behind well-known songs such as “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster,” the latter a funk hit that found renewed success thanks to a popular version recorded by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Ward’s colorful, vibrato-drenched guitar tone was an instantly recognizable part of most of the songs he played on. Continue reading »
