2009 Grammys Biggest Winner was an Album from 2007. Biggest Loser was Chris Brown.

Published February 9th, 2009 by Karen

Flickr photo by KidMoxieSunday night marked the 51st edition of the Grammys and in an unusual turn of events, it was the action offstage that got all of the attention—namely the arrest of Grammy-nominee Chris Brown, 19, was arrested on charges of making felony criminal threats related to domestic abuse. Neither he, nor his girlfriend Rihanna, attended the ceremony, adding to rumors that the pop starlet was the victim.

While Brown was the night’s biggest loser, the biggest winner at the 2009 Grammys was an album that was actually released in 2007. More on that later…

The show opened with a new song from U2, “Get On Your Boots,” which was even more boring than expected. The band’s ploy to inspire a sing along by projecting their pompous lyrics on a video screen failed, thank goodness. It was still better than whatever lame pop junk Rihanna would’ve done if she’d been there.

So, why was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosting the Grammys? Maybe it was a commentary on the fact that these awards shows are as fake and meaningless as Pro Wrestling…Maybe not.

Coldplay and Jay Z somehow managed to balance each other other during their duet, making each performer seem slightly less annoying, and only slightly more boring, than usual. Thankfully, Beyonce and her metal-gloved alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, did not tag along.

What in the world was that polka-dot bikini thing M.I.A. was wearing? We get it, you’re nine months pregnant and fashionably rebellious. Good job. Continue reading »

Bonnaroo 2008 Robert Plant VS Lez Zeppelin?

Published June 2nd, 2008 by Karen

The line-up for this year’s Bonnaroo Festival has just been announced.

For the uninitiated, Bonaroo is a four-day music and arts festival held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. Similar to Woodstock, Coachella and the late lamented Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo attracts a wide array of very high-profile acts, as well as cool up-and-coming artists playing everything from folk music, jam-band fare and indie-rock to blues, heavy metal and rap.

This year’s line-up is set to include big names such as Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West and B.B. King, as well as hipster acts Vampire Weekend, MGMT and Cat Power.

Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant will be performing with Alison Kraus on Sunday.
On Thursday, the all-female Led Zeppelin tribute act, Lez Zeppelin will perform. Wonder if they’re nervous? Will Plant make a guest appearance? Could be interesting…

The concert and events run from June 12-15, the pricey tickets cost from $209.50 to $244.50 (plus service charges). Camping is optional and some additional fees apply.

By the time you spend money on food and travel, this whole thing is really expensive, so I’m not really sure who attends this event. It seems too expensive for kids. College students, maybe? Well, college students with their parents’ credit cards, haha.

This concert is massive, so for the full line-up visit the Bonnaroo website, here. The site also features a clock counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the event begins, y’know, in case you’re crazy obsessive like that.
