Spoiler: 2009 Teen Choice Awards Winners, Losers, Videos

Published August 10th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: Newly-single Joe Jonas dances to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” while wearing some sort of unitard. Yes, it’s ok to laugh. The Jonas Brothers host the 2009 Teen Choice Awards tonight on Fox.

So, the 2009 Teen Choice Awards were handed out Sunday night, but the TV broadcast of the ceremony doesn’t air until tonight (Monday).

Basically, this means that by the time the show airs, everyone will already know who won/lost. So, if you memorize the winners now, you can amaze your friends with your psychic ability to predict winners during the show. Or not.

Doesn’t this sort of ruin some of the surprise?

Maybe the awards part of the show isn’t as important as the performances?

Anyway, if you’re too impatient to wait for the broadcast this evening, we’ve got the scoop on who took home the night’s big prizes Continue reading »

Twilight New Moon Soundtrack Sucks In Radiohead, Muse, Band of Skulls mp3

Published July 29th, 2009 by Karen

ABOVE: The Twilight New Moon trailer.

It looks like some big changes are going to hit the cast of Twilight: Eclipse, just before the third installment starts filming (Rachelle Lefevre, the actress portraying villainess, Victoria, is reportedly out).

One thing at a time though! The second film in the series, Twilight: New Moon, isn’t even in theatres yet–so it’s really too soon to start speculating about Twilight Eclipse or the Twilight Eclipse soundtrack.

(BTW: Is it just us, or does “Twilight: Eclipse” sound like a flavor of minty-fresh chewing gum, or some gross energy drink? Maybe it should be garlic-flavored, y’know, to keep vampires away…)

At least the Twilight New Moon soundtrack is slowly starting shape up.

Artists currently confirmed to join the soundtrack include Continue reading »

2009 No Doubt Tour Dates, Paramore Opens

Published June 4th, 2009 by Karen

Above: No Doubt takes a shot at Elvis with a cover of “Suspicious Minds.”

Gwen Stefani is stepping out of the solo spotlight and reuniting with her Anaheim, CA ska-pop outfit No Doubt for a massive summer tour. Since the group’s new album isn’t ready to go yet, fans are in for a trip down memory lane, with tons of vintage No Doubt material (and probably the band’s recent Gossip Girl-approved cover of Adam Ant’s “Stand and Deliver”).

Young rock newcomers, and Twilight Soundtrack faves, Paramore (video after the jump) open most of the shows, which is fitting since orange-haired singer Hayley Williams probably grew up listening to Stefani and Co.

Monkey Monday Music Video: Dancing Gorillas, Burlesque Girls, Tour Dates

Published May 18th, 2009 by Karen

Above: Gorillas, Mexican wrestler-masked guitarists and retro go-go girl triplets doin’ the twist-sure to brighten up your Monday a little.

Mondays can be kinda tough, so, because we like silly music videos, monkeys and alliteration, we’re revisiting a feature we like to call Monkey Monday. (Ok, so technically we invited a gorilla over for Monkey Monday, but he does the twist, so we think it’s ok.)

Eccentric, instrumental surf-rockers Los Straitjackets hit the road with go-go dancing burlesque triplets and glittery Mexican wrestler masks for a tour with equally entertaining trailer gothic “countrypolitan” moonshine-rock weirdos Southern Culture on the Skids (something like a backwoods B-52s, maybe). Retro surf-rock and wigged-out country music? It makes perfect sense, really.

Fun fact: Southern Culture on the Skids are one of Stephen King’s favorite bands.

Adding to the creepy fun, the band’s new songs “Soulful Garage” and “It’s All Over but the Shoutin’” have been featured on HBO’s new vampire series, True Blood.

After the jump: Find out where to catch Los Straitjackets & Southern Culture on the Skids on tour.
Plus: Flash back to 1995 with a Southern Culture on the Skids classic featuring camels and oat meal pies. (Not to be confused with Wilco (the Album)’s camel and party cake.)

Love or Hate it? Twilight Movie download Twilight soundtrack

Twilight Soundtrack Free Twilight movie download Free Twilight Soundtrack mp3 Music

While Twilight by Stephenie Meyer was a hit in bookstores (selling over 20 million copies), movie industry insiders were still somewhat surprised by the huge box office revenue being generated by the film version of the popular vampire story.

With news of a Twilight sequel based on the second Twilight book, New Moon, already spreading like wildfire, this series seems to have the makings of the next big franchise.

As vampire movies go, Twilight is a respectable entry into the category, although the recent Swedish teen vampire flick Frozen was cooler, funnier, smarter and had a better soundtrack (it featured the Hives! Twilight features Collective Soul—who the hell still listens to Collective Soul?!?!).

Anyway, re-read the books while you wait for the flood of New Moon movie previews and spoilers to hit the internet, and download free Twilight Soundtrack mp3s to set the mood for a dark evening with Edward Cullen and Bella Swan (star Robert Pattinson music is featured on the soundtrack, too!)

Happy haunting.

Best Halloween Movies and Free Halloween Music

Published October 30th, 2008 by Karen

It’s Halloween and that means two things: Free candy and scary movies!
(Well, it also means skanky girls dressed as “sexy” witches, nurses and hookers, but that’s a different story…)

In an attempt to scare ourselves silly, we’ve been watching lots of gross Halloween movies this week, but, so far, we’re not very scared.

Watching the classic fright flick Halloween, we realized that seeing Michael Myers slowly hunting humans with a scary mask and big knife isn’t nearly as scary as seeing Mike Myers act like an Indian love expert in the Love Guru.

So, are any Halloween classics actually scary? We’re taking a look at a few popular scary Halloween movies and deciding if they’re still scary or not—but leave a comment and let us know if you can think of something scarier!

Scary or Not Very? Top Halloween Movies

Saw V
Ok, this isn’t actually out yet, but we have a sneaky feeling that it’s going to be almost identical to all of the other Saw movies. Are these things still scary/gross? Or is it getting kind of lame and predictable by now?

Cloverfield
The only scariest thing about this movie is that I paid $12 to see it. On the plus side, most of the annoying characters died. Hopefully, there won’t be a sequel to this garbage.

Child’s Play
Dolls are creepy, end of story. The movie involves some sort of story about the doll being possessed by the spirit of a killer or something silly like that. But, seriously, we just assume all dolls are evil little monsters, no explanation needed.

Nightmare on Elm St.
Yeah, the whole “Freddy is a supernatural murderer that can kill you in your dreams” thing is pretty spooky, but the worst Freddy-attack is on the character who falls asleep in the bathtub. Because, if Psycho taught us one thing, it’s that you are basically defenseless in the shower/bath. Unless you have a really tough ducky. Plus, dying naked kinda sucks.

Night of the Living Dead
This black and white zombie flick is ultra-scary because it looks like a documentary. They might be slow, but the undead in this movies are as scary as the fast-moving zombies of 28 Days Later…well, almost.

Psycho
“Mother” runs up the stairs with a knife, weird overhead camera angle.
Classic, slow-moving monsters are scary, but fast-moving crazies are terrifying!

The Ring
This might be the scariest movie ever.
Why? Because, much like Nightmare on Elm St., it gives you a sort of helpless feeling. Freddy attacks through your dreams, but the Ring comes at you through your TV and telephone! It’s a terrifying slice of modern horror—plus, the creepy editing and sound effects are unforgettable.

We need your advice!
Leave a comment and tell us what scary movies we should be watching!

Plus, stop by and download some free Halloween music and free Halloween ringtones.
Thank goodness, there isn’t a ringtone for The Ring! There’s a pretty sweet free Ghostbusters ringtone though.

Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel Soundtrack With Marilyn Manson

Published October 9th, 2008 by Karen

Tim Burton’s stylish 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas has become something of a cult classic, particularly among goth rock kids and Hot Topic shoppers. The story of the Mayor of Halloweentown discovering the magic of Christmas blends elements of musical theatre and holiday and horror film classics, all with Burton’s typical dark edge.

Some 15 years later, a follow-up to the movie is finally being released…sort of.

Nightmare Revisited is the sequel to the original soundtrack of the popular film. This time around, the movie’s musical numbers are being covered by an array of rock, punk, hard-rock and other artists.

Among the high-profile performers offering their interpretations of the musical’s hits are Marilyn Manson, All American Rejects, Korn and Amy Lee of Evanescence.

While the film was re-released to theatres in a 3-D edition, there are still no plans for a sequel—thanks goodness. The original film is interesting because it has a unique look and story, so some sort of computer-animated Disney-style follow-up would only detract from it.

Nightmare Before Christmas 2 Nightmare Revisited Soundtrack highlights:
“Overture” (DeVotchKa)
“Opening” (Danny Elfman)
“This Is Halloween” (free Marilyn Manson mp3)
“Jack’s Lament” (The All-American Rejects)
“Doctor Finkelstein/In The Forest” (Amiina)
“What’s This?” (Flyleaf)
“Town Meeting Song” (The Polyphonic Spree)
“Jack and Sally Montage” (The Vitamin String Quartet)
“Jack’s Obsession” (Sparklehorse)
“Kidnap the Sandy Claws” (Free Korn mp3
“Making Christmas” (Rise Against)
“Nabbed” (Yoshida Brothers)
“Oogie Boogie’s Song” (Rodrigo y Gabriela)
“Sally’s Song” (Amy Lee)
“Christmas Eve Montage” (RJD2)
“Poor Jack” (free Plain White T’s mp3
“To the Rescue” (Datarock)
